New Walking Dead trailer brings back legendary threat (and it's a shocker)

The Walking Dead franchise has introduced us to a lot of terrifying threats over the years, and now one of its most frightening is back.

Walking Dead fans have seen a lot over the years. The franchise continues to thrill audiences in today's day and age, just as it has done for 15 years with its edge-of-seat, gripping, and apocalyptic premise. If there's one thing that this franchise has learned to do since its 2010 debut, it's evade death - and that's pretty darn ironic.

That's what The Walking Dead was all about, as Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Carol Peletier, and so many others have been cheating death since the apocalypse began for them. And it goes without saying that they have been extremely effective in doing that, despite going up against some formidable threats (including Negan, The Governor, Terminus, The Whisperers).

But there is one threat that has reigned over all of the threats, and it has been revealed when the worst of them all - and the worst version of them - will make their presence felt in the TWD Universe next.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 trailer confirms when the flaming walkers will return

A brand new trailer for the next episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 has been released, and it looks like things are about to get intense for Daryl and Carol in Solaz del Mar. Well, even more intense than usual, as those two are always getting themselves into some trouble!

The clip showcases that the spinoff's new Spanish setting is going to find itself in a spot of bother when some new enemies begin to make their presence felt on the town. "La Justicia Fronteriza" will seemingly see the Primitivos attack the town, likely prompting Daryl and Carol (and probably Paz, whose an equal badass) into action. We'll have to wait and see how that goes down, but the trailer does confirm this is the episode where one of the TWD franchise's more fearful sights will once again resurface. Watch it below to find out:

Yep, it's the deadly flaming walkers! The sight of the undead slowly walking towards you is terrifying enough, but to see them do so on fire - unfazed by the flames all over their body - that's a whole other kettle of fish entirely. It's not yet clear how they end up on fire, but the trailer does feature a sequence in which Carol yells at the Solaz del Mar residents to "take cover" right as a fireball erupts around them. Did some nearby walkers catch the flames?

It was previously confirmed via a social media clip that the fiery monsters would be involved in this season of Daryl Dixon, but it wasn't clear which episode they would get in on the action (or how they would do so). Now, this trailer solidifies the return of the creatures in the upcoming fourth episode of the season.

Needless to say, anyone familiar with The Walking Dead and its various spinoffs will know that the flaming walkers are one of the deadliest recurring threats that any survivor can encounter on the road. They've featured in multiple shows within the TWD Universe franchise over the years and every single time, it's been a larger than life moment that left fans cowering behind their cushions (and understandably so!). Who could forget when Carol destroyed Terminus with a fiery blaze that the unsuspecting undead just wandered into? Or when Fear The Walking Dead's Madison Clark set a stadium full of walkers alight to distract them from her family?

Honestly, this is a threat that the franchise could rely on more. It's easy to explain how the walkers catch fire because in a world as apocalyptic as the TWD Universe's, there are always intense fighting scenes and there are always walkers to go along with them. There is no doubt about it that seeing them coming towards the screen is one of the franchise's most frightful sights, so fans definitely wouldn't be opposed to more scenes like that.

Tensions are running high in Solaz del Mar after the arrival of El Alcazar - the apparent future of Spanish royalty in the TWD Universe, who are now on the hunt for the person who killed three of their men. Of course, the person responsible for that is Daryl Dixon himself, and he and Carol are seemingly set to take on the villains in order to restore real order in town - and not the corrupt one that only benefits El Alcazar. But what about these new villains who threaten to "burn it all down"? Are they the real threat after all?

Anyone who unleashes flaming walkers means business.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 airs new episodes each Sunday on AMC. They are also available to stream each Sunday on AMC+.
