Calling all Walking Dead fans! We have more information to share about the upcoming Walking Dead game, The Walking Dead: Aftermath. Back in April 2026, we brought to your attention that AMC Global Media and Ares Interactive had teamed up to make the free-to-play roguelite game that's set in the post-apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead universe. Not only that, we were able to provide you with an overview of the game, a few photos, the release window, etc.

Now, we have much more to share via a new press release! One of the biggest new reveals is the announcement of pre-registration. The game is currently opening pre-registration on Thursday, May 21, with early sign-ups receiving exclusive rewards. One of those rewards is the addition of an underrated OG Walking Dead character to the player’s roster in the game. What survivor from the beloved zombie series are we talking about, you ask? Well, it's none other than T-Dog.

If you recall from The Walking Dead series, T-Dog was part of Rick Grimes’ original survivor group in the early days of the apocalypse. While often seen as a quieter presence compared to other core members of the group, he played a crucial role in the survival of the group during the chaotic collapse of civilization. His inclusion in The Walking Dead: Aftermath is a notable nod to longtime fans, giving players a chance to bring a familiar early-series survivor into gameplay as part of their growing roster.

Beyond this early character unlock, signing up ahead of the game's launch also offers additional in-game rewards. This includes a rare gear piece and bonus resources that will help players gain a head start when they enter the game’s harsh survival world.

Last but not least, the new press release revealed new information about one of the game’s core systems. That's Base Camp, the central hub where players will spend time between combat missions. At the base, players can:

  • Forge Survivor Bonds: Unlock additional characters and exclusive progression bonuses by building relationships between survivors. Assigning them to specific camp roles unlocks vital production synergies and enhances overall community effectiveness.
  • Secure the Perimeter: Construct and upgrade defensive structures, such as watchtowers and walls, to safeguard the settlement.
  • Generate Critical Resources: Manage farms, scrapyards, and lumber mills to produce the supplies necessary for expansion.
  • Arsenal Progression: Permanently improve weapons, armor, and survivor attributes using scavenged materials.

Set in the same universe as the hit AMC television series, The Walking Dead: Aftermath allows players to step into the chaos of the apocalypse while taking control of recognizable survivors from the original show. The list includes characters like Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Michonne. The key appeal for longtime fans, however, is the ability to interact more directly with iconic characters rather than simply watching their story unfold on screen.

Here's the official summary of the game via the press release:

"The Walking Dead: Aftermath thrusts players into the boots of legendary survivors like Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Michonne. In a world where every run is a desperate fight for life, players must navigate harrowing runs where they will face relentless waves of walkers, hostile human factions, and formidable boss encounters where any mistake could be deadly. During each mission, survivors level up in real-time, selecting from three randomized ability upgrades that evolve combat and survival tactics on the fly. With dynamic enemy spawns and environmental variables ensuring no two sessions are identical, this frenetic combat is paired with a deep strategic meta that demands constant adaptation to stay ahead of the horde."

Additionally, players will be able to traverse several familiar locations from the television series in the game, including Hershel’s Farm, Woodbury, Alexandria, and other iconic settings from The Walking Dead universe. What's also worth mentioning is that the game will be continuously updated over time. Players can expect regular content drops, including new story chapters, additional playable characters, and limited-time events.

Unfortunately, The Walking Dead: Aftermath still hasn't been given an official release date yet. All we know is that the game will be released on the App Store and Google Play sometime this summer 2026. Ares Interactive has also confirmed that The Walking Dead: Aftermath will eventually roll out on additional platforms beyond mobile. However, those platforms have not yet been revealed. Instead, they will be revealed at a later date.

Don't worry! We’ll get back to you as soon as more details are shared, including any new platform announcements, release updates, and additional gameplay information as development continues. That said, stay tuned to Undead Walking!
