In a world where the undead roam free across the streets, ruthless factions fight against each other, and anyone can meet their end at any time... perhaps the most terrifying thing is having to face a delay. Unfortunately, our worst fears just came true.
Fans worldwide are eager to watch the culmination of a legendary journey that's been nearly two decades in the making. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 will mark the end of the beloved spin-off show, with actor Norman Reedus teasing that the final batch of episodes will "hit way different" this time around. The end of an era was nearly upon us, and everyone was gearing up to start bidding farewell later this year. However, a sudden change in plans means we'll have to wait longer than expected to say goodbye to Daryl Dixon.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 was pushed back to 2027
In a new Instagram post, Norman Reedus revealed that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 has been delayed to 2027, despite AMC originally announcing that it would be released this year. The iconic actor published a few behind-the-scenes pictures of the show along with the following caption:
"Daryl Dixon's final episodes are coming 2027! I can't quite believe we're here. Thank you to every single one of you who joined us on this journey – through the good, the brutal and everything in between. We've gotten a lot of bruises, scars and concussions along the way. A lot of hard work went into this series, especially the crews. This last chapter is gonna hit different and hit hard. I can't wait for you all to see them. See you in 2027. Missing u all at Comicon."
Fans were already skeptical that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 would meet its initial release window. After all, we went into the second half of the year without any concrete information as to when Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride would take over the small screen once more. To make matters worse, the acclaimed spin-off show skipped this year's edition of San Diego Comic-Con, despite it being the perfect opportunity for AMC to announce a concrete release date. While there was still hope that the show would be released this year, some eyebrows were definitely raised, and now we know there was good reason for it.
The one upside of the situation is that AMC is now guaranteed to keep its 17-year streak of yearly The Walking Dead releases going. After all, fans still have The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 to look forward to this year, with its first episode set to be released on Sunday, Jul. 26, 2026. Meanwhile, Daryl Dixon will have 2027 all to himself (unless AMC decides to surprise us with any new releases at SDCC).
On the one hand, it is disappointing to learn that we won't tag along with Daryl on his last ride later this year. However, with so many expectations on the line, it is best for the creative team to take its time and make the final batch of episodes the best it can be in terms of VFX, editing, and other post-production duties. It's better to wait a while longer than to feel the final season of a legendary show was rushed (because we have lived through that situation on many occasions in the past).
Perhaps the worst part is not knowing how much longer we'll have to wait. A release date for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 still eludes us, and previous seasons of the show have been released either in July or September. So, there's a chance that AMC will look to keep this streak going and make us wait for another six months. But with a little bit of luck, that won't be the case.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will be released in 2027.
