Norman Reedus has officially bid farewell to The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon in an emotional Instagram post.
After returning from a motorcycle trip in Mongolia and an appearance at Hong Kong Comic Con, Reedus posted a lengthy farewell to fans, the series, and the great character, Daryl Dixon, he's played in The Walking Dead universe for almost two decades now.
"Finally going through these photos to check off from the last episode now that I’m back from Mongolia it was really hard to kill any of them," Reedus wrote on Instagram. "I didn’t post any of those here, but I can’t wait for people to see this show the crew best I’ve ever worked with the feeling of accomplishment when it was over was just amazing. Such hard work and I so much hart put into this I think you’re gonna feel it. It was a special season. I can’t wait for you to see it. It hits just way different this time."
Reedus also shared a few behind-the-scenes photos from the last day of production on Daryl Dixon season 4. Melissa McBride, who starred as Carol Peletier in The Walking Dead and all four seasons of Daryl Dixon, was right by Reedus' side in the photos. You can check out all six photos on Reedus' Instagram.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 officially wrapped production at the end of 2025. Since production wrapped, Reedus has been quiet about his feelings and thoughts about the finale. This is not the first time Reedus has posted since the show wrapped, but it is the first time he's commented, at length on his personal account, about the end of the series.
So far, Daryl Dixon season 4 doesn't have a premiere date yet. AMC has also been pretty quiet about when they are planning to drop the final season. The good news is that we know it's coming later this year.
Looking at the release dates for previous seasons, all of those seasons premiered in September. With Dead City season 3's premiere on Sunday, July 26, we could see that release date pushed back into October, but it looks like we'll probably have two seasons of The Walking Dead spinoffs coming this fall. Of course, Daryl Dixon season 4 is the final season, so it's a little bit bittersweet.
There's obviously someone missing from Reedus' Daryl Dixon season 4 behind-the-scenes photos. There's been a lot of chatter that Andrew Lincoln will be reprising his role of Rick Grimes for Daryl Dixon season 4. Nothing has been announced so far, but that's what fans are expecting.
We also don't know exactly what to expect in Daryl Dixon season 4, but the big working theory is that Carol and Daryl are finally, officially heading stateside in the new season, but we'll just have to wait and see if it happens.
We've also learned recently what Reedus will be up to after Daryl Dixon comes to an end. He is starring a new horror movie, Pendelum, which premieres on Jan. 7, 2027. He also recently gave an update on The Boondock Saints 3, and he mentioned that's in the works, as well.
