The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is officially heading toward its endgame, and while AMC still hasn’t revealed an exact premiere date for the fourth and final season, there have been several major developments.
Between a behind-the-scenes post-production update, release window speculation, and a possible returning character tease, there’s suddenly a lot more movement surrounding the final installment than many fans may realize. Below, we shared three major Daryl Dixon season 4 updates you might have missed!

1. Daryl Dixon season 4 has partially wrapped post-production
One of the biggest behind-the-scenes developments surrounding the final season came from the show’s post-production process. The most notable detail came after a sound professional connected to the series shared on Instagram that the sound department had completed its work on the upcoming fourth installment.
His name is Carlos Sanches, and he shared this post on his personal Instagram page on May 1. However, the post is now deleted. Don't worry, though! We were able to grab what he said in the post's caption and shared it below!
"And that’s a wrap on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon!! An amazing 4 years with the BEST crew ever!! Huge thanks to @postsoundslikebrianfor having me and @josh.eckbergjump on this show years ago. Thanks to our amazing show runners David Zabel and John Marler, they are a dream to work with. Jim Gallivan killed it every episode with the sound design, Ian Blackman editing dialogue, @kencainsoundediting Foley, @homeskewldrecording foley, Sebastian Visconti editing walkers and group, and @jim.schultzediting music. Chad Algerin, mix tech to the stars kept us all laughing and the stage rolling!! I’ll miss mixing this show at @wbppcs." - Carlos Sanches on Instagram
While this alone doesn’t necessarily confirm that the entire eight-episode season is 100% finished, it does strongly suggest the series has entered the final stretch of post-production. That’s a pretty significant update when you consider how quickly AMC has been moving with the Daryl Dixon spinoff in general.
The series has maintained one of the fastest production schedules in the entire Walking Dead franchise. Seasons have consistently filmed back-to-back while AMC keeps the show locked into a yearly release pattern. So while post-production hasn’t officially been declared complete, all signs currently point toward Daryl Dixon season 4 being very close to finished.
2. The final season is reportedly eyeing a fall 2026 release window
The second major update involves when fans can actually expect to see the final season premiere. AMC has already confirmed that Daryl Dixon season 4 will be released sometime in 2026, but a more specific timeframe may have surfaced through a recent report.
According to People, the fourth season is now reportedly targeting a fall 2026 release window. The rumor started after People attended AMC’s Global Media Upfront presentation in May and later mentioned in their write-up of the event that Daryl Dixon would return “this fall” on AMC.
While the network itself hasn’t announced an exact month yet, many fans believe that AMC might continue the show’s release pattern of premiering in September. And honestly, it would make a lot of sense.
Every previous season of Daryl Dixon has premiered during the fall. Season 1 debuted in September 2023, season 2 arrived in September 2024, and season 3 premiered in September 2025. So if AMC wants consistency for the show’s final installment, September 2026 feels like the most logical release window for Daryl Dixon season 4.
The timing also fits AMC’s broader strategy. The network has spent the past few years airing new seasons of Dead City before airing new seasons of Daryl Dixon later in the year. With Dead City season 3 occupying part of AMC’s summer 2026 lineup, Daryl Dixon season 4 sliding into the fall again would keep that schedule intact. If not a September 2026 premiere, perhaps an October or November 2026 release window could be in play for the fourth season. We'll just have to wait and see what AMC decides!
3. Manish Dayal may have hinted at Ash's return in Daryl Dixon season 4
Another recent development involves actor Manish Dayal, who played Ash Patel in Daryl Dixon season 2. In March 2026, Dayal sparked major speculation among Walking Dead fans after sharing a behind-the-scenes photo dump from his time working on the series on social media.
The Instagram post included several images featuring Dayal alongside Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, and longtime Walking Dead director Greg Nicotero. The caption read: “even the apocalypse gets a photo dump.”
Now, on its own, that might not sound like much. Actors post throwback photos all the time. But because the series is currently heading into its final season, fans immediately started wondering whether Dayal’s sudden return to posting Daryl Dixon content could be a subtle tease that Ash appears again in season 4. And honestly, the speculation isn’t completely unreasonable.
Ash became an important part of season 2’s story, particularly because of his connection to Carol. Bringing him back for the final season could make a lot of narrative sense, especially if the show intends to revisit unresolved character arcs before it concludes.
At the moment, though, it’s important to stress that nothing has been officially confirmed. AMC has not announced Dayal as part of the season 4 cast, and the actor himself hasn’t directly stated he’s returning. Still, Walking Dead fans know better than almost anyone that this franchise loves surprise appearances and secret returns.
