C. Thomas Howell cast in One Mile and the sequel One More Mile from Republic Pictures

Deadline reports that actor and musician C. Thomas Howell and Sara Canning have been cast in the feature film One Mile and its sequel One More Mile. Howell is best remembered for his role as Ponyboy Curtis in The Outsiders. He can currently be seen in the Dennis Quaid-led movie Reagan, a chronicle of the life of President Ronald Reagan. Howell portrays the president's secretary of defense, Caspar Weinberger.

One Mile and One More Mile hail from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Paramount’s Republic Pictures. Written by John Hlavin with rewrites from TJ Brady and Rasheed Newson the movies, that will be filmed simultaneously, are directed by Adam Davidson. Production is expected to commence on September 9 on Vancouver Island.

Howell and Canning join previously announced leads Ryan Phillippe and Amélie Hoeferle. The story follows Danny (Philleppe) and his daughter (Hoeferle) as they visit colleges in an attempt to repair their estranged relationship. When they lose their way, they encounter a hostile, off-the-grid community. Canning has been cast as Janine, Danny's ex-wife and Alex's mother, who organized the college visits. When she is unable to contact them she becomes concerned and will stop at nothing to find her daughter.

Howell portrays the patriarch of the Dixon family, Stanley, who is a charismatic leader of the community. He is a dangerous man, more so than the others in his group, who desires to protect the future of his descendants. He uses kidnapped victims to introduce new DNA into his rotting bloodline.

C. Thomas Howell - latest roles

In 2023, Howell starred with fellow Walking Dead actress Paola Lázaro in the Netflix original series Obliterated. The series is bonkers, in a good way. The story follows an elite group of special force members who, after deactivating a bomb in Las Vegas, celebrate their victory Las Vegas style. After much celebrating, which included alcohol and drugs, the team is informed that the bomb is a fake. They must assist one another in overcoming their impairments to complete the mission.

You can also see him in the bull riding drama Ride, which also stars Annabeth Gish, Forrie J. Smith, and writer/director Jake Allyn. Howell with join Michille Hurd, who stars in one episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City, in a romantic western, Where the Wind Blows.
