Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol, what's ahead for Isabelle in season 2?
By Renee Hansen
French actress Clémence Poésy joined The Walking Dead universe in the first season of the fifth spinoff of the main series, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. The series focuses on the titular character, portrayed by Norman Reedus, as he embarks on an unexpected journey to France. Along the way, he encounters many people, friends, and foes. One of these is Poésy's Isabelle.
One of the first people Daryl encountered when journeying through France was Isabelle, a nun who lived at the Abbey of Saint Bernadette. Prior to the outbreak, Isabelle lived quite a different life than that of a nun. She was a drug addict, party girl, and petty thief who struggled with suicidal thoughts, which she acted on at least once. She is a headstrong, independent woman who, despite her flaws, truly loved and cared about her sister, Lily (Faustine Koziel), who died in childbirth at the onset of the outbreak. After the birth of her nephew, Isabelle repented of her past life and joined the Abbey, where she lived with her nephew, Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi).
Isabelle, her fellow nuns, and leaders of their group, the Union of Hope, all believe that due to the fact his mother was bitten and turned while he was still in the womb, Laurent is destined to save humanity. Isabelle enlisted Daryl's help to ensure their safe arrival at The Nest, the home base of the Union of Hope.
When they finally arrived at the Nest, Daryl continued to plan his initial mission of returning home to his family. During their travels, Daryl, Isabelle, and Laurent became close, and he was torn about what he should do next. Daryl and Isabelle appear to have a connection, and Laurent looks to Daryl as a father figure, compounding his decision-making. He decides to leave without saying goodbye. Isabelle confronts him, stating that she thinks he found what he was looking for when he left the Commonwealth, even though it wasn't what he thought he would find. She also guilts him, saying that he is abandoning Laurent as his father did to him. In the end, he decides to leave anyway, and Isabelle tells him she is glad they met, wishing him Godspeed on his journey.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol season 2
Entertainment Weekly has posted its fall TV show rundown, which includes a snip about the Daryl Dixon series and what's next for Isabelle with a new promo image of the character (below).
One of the highlights of the second season is the return of Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier, Daryl's long-time best friend. While showrunner David Zabel has stated there are no plans for romance between these two characters, he hints at something blossoming between Daryl and Isabelle. It will be interesting to see where this relationship goes in the upcoming season.
Poésy shared a little insight into what viewers can expect from Isabelle in season 2 with EW.
"“There’s a lot of doubt,” teases Posey. “She starts questioning what she has believed for years, starts seeing the flaws, the cracks in the dogma that has kept her going for so long. It’s always interesting taking a character through that kind of journey.” "
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol returns to AMC and AMC+ on September 29 at 9 p.m. ET. The six-part second season will lead into the third, which will be set and filmed in Spain.
