Dead City season 2 update: Sons of Anarchy actor Kim Coates added to cast
By Renee Hansen
Canadian-American actor Kim Coates will join Dead City season 2. Deadline reports that Coates has been cast in a heavily recurring role opposite Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, who portray Negan and Maggie. Filming for the series began in April 2024.
Dead City is the fourth spinoff of The Walking Dead created for AMC by TWD Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple and showrunner Eli Jorné. This series is the first sequel series to TWD which features characters originally introduced in the main series.
Morgan and Cohan reprised their roles for the series and were joined by a large number of new actors expected to return in season 2, including Gaius Charles, Mahina Napoleon, Željko Ivanek, Lisa Emery, Logan Kim, Pallavi Sastry. Additional cast included Jonathan Higginbotham, Trey Santiago-Hudson, Michelle Hurd, and Charlie Solis.
Kim Coates is the first new cast member announced for the second season. According to Deadline, he will portray Bruegel, the leader of one of the fiercest gangs in New York. He is an intelligent and manipulative man, and it will be exciting to see him in this role.
Well known for his role as Tig in Sons of Anarchy, Coates recently starred in Bad Blood, a Netflix original, and Emmy-winning limited series Godless and White Plumbers for HBO. He recently attended the 2022 Newport Beach Film Festival for the world premiere of Double Down South, a new movie he stars in.
Dead City season 2
The final episode of season 1 established events for the second season. Maggie betrayed Negan to ensure the rescue of her son Hershel (Kim). She traded Negan to the Croat (Ivanek), who introduced him to the Dama (Emery), who wanted Negan to help her take over Manhattan.
Maggie has also vowed to end her obsession with exacting revenge on Negan, a topic that has strained her relationship with her teenage son. Newcomer Perlie Armstrong (Charles) is a marshall for New Babylon who, by letting Negan go instead of killing him, as ordered, has created some trouble for himself. A young girl named Ginny (Napoleon), whom Negan took care of after the death of her father, discovered that Negan actually killed her father. She was ushered back to The Bricks (Maggie's new home) but it is highly unlikely she stays put.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 will most likely be released in 2025.
