Recently, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jensen Ackles attended Creation Burbank in California, where they discussed many topics, including whether or not Ackles could appear in Morgan's spinoff series The Walking Dead: Dead City. Morgan, who portrays Negan, begins filming for the second season of the spinoff in April 2024.

Morgan and Ackles have been longtime friends. Ackles introduced Morgan to his wife, Hilarie Burton Morgan. He and fellow Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus officiated the Morgans wedding. The pair have appeared in Supernatural together, and next, Morgan will join Ackles in The Boys, season 4.

At Creation Burbank, the duo fielded questions from the audience; one question asked if there was a possibility of Ackles joining The Walking Dead universe or if he had a desire to do so. Morgan's immediate response: "Yeah!" He added that this was a recent conversation, and Morgan would love to have time, and Ackles would love to be a part of Dead City. While this is very exciting, the big issue is their schedules, which don't always align. They have long wanted Morgan to join The Boys, and it's season 4, and he was finally able to join that series .(covered initially by Geekly)

The second season of Dead City is reportedly scheduled to begin filming in April 2024. Perhaps Ackles will find time in his schedule to join the series, which focuses on Morgan's Negan and Lauren Cohan's Maggie, who appeared alongside Ackles in Supernatural.

Dead City will move filming of the second season from New Jersey, where season 1 was filmed, to Boston. Morgan and Cohan will return this season, as will several other characters introduced in the season, including Gaius Charles, Zeljko Ivanek, Karina Ortiz, Mahina Napoleon, Logan Kim, and Pallavi Sastry.
