Fear the Walking Dead's Demetrius Grosse stars in Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot
By Renee Hansen
Award-winning actor Demetrius Grosse is well known for his roles in Straight Outta Compton and Justified and as twins Emile & Josiah LaRoux in AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. His most recent project, Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, is inspired by a true story.
Directed, and produced by Joshua Weigel (The Butterfly Circus), who co-wrote the story with Rebekah Weigel for Peachtree Productions, the movie is executive produced by Letitia Wright (Black Panther). Sound of Hope is the Utah-based Angel Studios production that in 2023 created the child-trafficking thriller Sound of Freedom. The film was inspired by the powerful story of Bishop and First Lady Donna Martin from Possum Trot, Texas, who ignited a movement in their rural church, Bennett Chapel, to adopt some of the most difficult-to-place children in foster care.
Between 1998 and 2000, the Martins helped 76 children be adopted, and another was adopted in 2011. All of these children were placed in the homes of 22 families who are parishioners of Martin's church. Their story has spawned a national movement for the vulnerable children placed in foster care that currently continues.
The film is an inspirational story that opened in theaters on July 4 and earned $6.8 million during the holiday weekend, outperforming expectations. Sound of Hope has earned a 79% on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes with an impressive 98% audience score.
