Is Heath alive in The Walking Dead and will he appear in The Ones Who Live?
By Renee Hansen
Actor Corey Hawkins is well known in The Walking Dead universe for his portrayal of Heath, a member of Alexandria. He is also remembered as one of several characters who dropped from the storyline without a trace. Will his fate ever be revealed on screen?
In season 5, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group were brought into a new community called the Alexandria Safe Zone by their scout, Aaron (Ross Marquand). This event greatly expanded the cast and introduced Heath, one of the community's supply runners.
Despite his experience outside the walls of Alexandria, Heath had never faced the horrors that Rick and his group faced while trying to survive. Thus, he had difficulty understanding Rick's philosophy regarding the undead.
Heath, like Glenn (Steven Yeun), didn't like killing people unless it was in self-defense and was very loyal to fellow survivors, refusing to leave people behind.
Did Heath die in The Walking Dead?
In season 7, he and Tara (Alanna Masterson) embarked on a two-week supply run. This is when Heath suddenly disappeared with no explanation. Showrunner Angela Kang would later explain that Heath was a victim of Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh), who traded people for resources with the powerful CRM (Civic Republic Military).
Jadis had a deal in place with the CRM for many years and traded countless individuals for the resources her Scavengers needed to survive. When Simon (Steven Ogg), one of Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) Saviors, wiped out her community, she was invited to join Rick's.
Jadis has always been a person who looks out for herself, and when a new and better opportunity presents itself, she flips sides without a second thought.
In season 9 of TWD, she would use Rick as a pawn to gain entrance into the CRM. In the World Beyond spinoff it was revealed that she joined the CRM and became a high ranking officer. The Ones Who Live spinoff would mark the return of Rick with more information about the CRM and the idealic Civic Republic, a hidden city located in what was formerly Philadelphia.
While much light has been shed on Jadis and her role in the CRM, still nothing has been mentioned about Heath. The CRM's A & B classifications determine whether or not people join the group or are killed. Heath would have likely been classified as a B, people who follow orders and fall in line with the rules given them, securing his position in the culling facilities. He would have been placed there for six years until he earned his position in the CR and was assigned a new job. The series may never feature Heath, but a mention would suffice.
