National Dianne Day - Celebrating Walking Dead's Kerry Cahill's role in the series
By Renee Hansen
Actress Kerry Cahill portrayed Dianne, a member of the Kingdom in The Walking Dead series. She is one of the long-running characters who never had a main role but was always present, especially during vital moments of combat. Today is National Diane (Dianne) Day, and we thought it would be fun to honor Cahill and her role in the series.
Dianne was introduced in the season 7 episode, "The Well," written by Matt Negrete and directed by Greg Nicotero, and first introduced the Kingdom to the series storyline. She was present during the feral hog hunt with Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Morgan (Lennie James), and others. She later attends the exchange with the Saviors, and after Jared (Josh Mikel) attacks Richard (Karl Makinen), she draws her weapon, but Ezekiel diffuses the situation.
While she is a woman of few words, Dianne chooses the right moments to voice her opinions and is always at the ready when action is needed. She is highly skilled in combat and very loyal to her allies. She was one of Ezekiel's most trusted soldiers within the Kingdom.
The Walking Dead - Dianne
Dianne witnessed a lot during her story in the series. She endured the tortment of the Saviors, watched her beloved Kingdom fall and saw the deaths of many people close to her. She was a vital member of Alexandria and Hilltop and was part of the militia. She has the most appearances of any recurring character in the series, appearing in 36 episodes.
In the final season of the series, she opts to leave Hilltop and join the Commonwealth when Maggie (Lauren Cohan) declines assistance from the CW to help rebuild.
When she sees the true nature of Governor Pamela Milton (Laila Robins), she joins the resistance movement. During the final episode, Dianne, as always, is there to lend a hand, battling her way to get supplies where they are needed and fight off the horde.
After the dust settles, Dianne is seen with the group enjoying a feast, celebrating their triumph over Milton. After the one-year time jump, she likely made her home at the reformed Commonwealth, where Ezekiel and Mercer (Michael James Shaw) were appointed as leaders.
Cahill has many notable credits to her name, including a recent appearance in two episodes of AMC's Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches, an episode of The Thing About Pam, starring Renée Zellweger and Chicago P.D.
She also starred in Madres, an Amazon Prime Video movie that aired in 2021 as part of the Welcome to Blumhouse campaign.
