Seth Gilliam's new movie The Lady of the Lake coming to VOD in August

Walking Dead actor Seth Gilliam, who played Father Gabriel Stokes, has secured his next role. He will star in a new movie, The Lady of the Lake, scheduled for release this summer.

The Lady of the Lake is a psychological thriller written, directed, and produced by Maria Capp (Four Cousins & a Christmas). It premiered at the Long Island International Film Expo and has been acquired by Vision Films Inc. for worldwide VOD distribution rights. The movie is scheduled for a virtual screen with Q&A on August 17 and a VIP event on August 4 at Sayville Theater. The movie will then become available on Transactional VOD in North America on August 27. The film was formerly titled The Lady of the Lake: The Legend of Lake Ronkonkoma.

Capp, a native of Ronkonkoma in Suffolk County, New York, filmed the movie in her childhood home. The movie uses the Princess of Lake Ronkonkoma, a story from Native American folklore, as the story's backdrop.

Lake Ronkonkoma legend

Lake Ronkonkoma is the biggest and deepest lake on Long Island, and it was thought to be bottomless by Native Americans. The legend has many different versions, but the gist is that Native American Princess Ronkonkoma experienced love forbidden by her father, chief of the Setauket tribe, and eventually died by her own hand in the middle of the lake. The legend tells that she takes the life of a young man in the lake each year to either avenge her lover's death or find her match in the afterlife. This would seem a silly notion or superstition if it weren't for the recorded deaths by drowning of young males almost every year for decades.

Lady of the Lake movie

The film tells of the Schultz family, which is impacted by the one-year anniversary of the death of a beloved family member. Jamie is excited to spend her 18th birthday with her friends at the lake, which is said to be haunted by the legend. This is overshadowed by her estranged relationship with her father and the mental health issues of her mother.

Jamie Schultz is portrayed by Nia Sioux with Seth Gilliam as her father Adam. Her mother, Mia, is played by Sera-Lys McArthur. Additional cast members include Emery Kelly, Larry Saperstein, Del Zamora, Steven Thomas Capp, Julie Dove, Clio Contogenis, Veronica Kelly, sisters Raffaela Capp and Natasha Capp, Chris Roach, Tori London; and introducing Taylor Red Fox as Tahoma.

In 2023, Capp and Gilliam were guests on The Donna Drake Show, Live it Up, where they discussed the film. Capp wrote the script during the pandemic as she isolated at her family's Lake Ronkonkoma home. She drew inspiration from her childhood memories and the legend to create what Gilliam describes as a coming-age story.
