Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) has been a confident man, even in times when it looked like the odds were stacked against him. On more than one occasion in The Walking Dead series, he promised Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) he would kill him. In season 8, Rick spared Negan, breaking that promise. In episode 3 of The Ones Who Live, Rick issues the same threat to Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh). Will he follow through this time?

The third episode of The Ones Who Lives featured a flashback scene that took place years ago, a month after Rick was traded to the CRM (Civic Republic Military) by Jadis. She was placed within the city of the Civic Republic and waited until Rick's orientation so she could talk to him, away from the eyes and ears of the CRM who aren't permitted to opporate there.

She explains her original deal of trading people for resources. Rick is extremely angry with her for taking him away from his family to a place he cannot leave, and she tries to reason with him, telling him that she saved him. She pleads with him to conform to what they expect as she believes the organization will rebuild society better than before.

In the present, Jadis, who is now a warrant officer for the CRM, in a visit to Rick's room, states, "You're thinking about killing me." His reply, I will, but not today. This echoes what he previously told Negan, but when the time came, he remembered the wishes of his son Carl (Chander Riggs), who, in his dying letter to his father, tells him to stop fighting Negan and make peace.

Rick is playing the CRM's game, fitting in as a soldier, but he doesn't plan on sticking around. He desires to kill Jadis for all the pain and lost time she has caused him. But she informs him that if she dies, certain information is hidden among her possessions which will reveal everything the CRM needs to know about Rick and the people he loves.

Jadis understands what it means to have Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Rick in the CRM...together they can do anything. She is making threats because she knows if they try to escape, they will succeed and their famlies and all they hold dear back at the communties will be destroyed.

It will be interesting to see if Rick kills Jadis before the end of the series. She appears to be extremely loyal to the CRM and their plans for the future. But everyone knows, Jadis is always looking for the best situation for her. She is known for flipping sides as soon as a better opportunity presents itself.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live airs new episodes on AMC and AMC+ on Sundays.
