The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live concluded its six-part story on March 31. The fairy-tale ending saw a Grimes family reunion and Rick finally meeting his son. The end of this series begs the question: Will fans see more of Rick and Michonne?

Despite some disappointment with the CRM storyline, the focus was always the epic love story of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira), and this series did justice to that topic. Not only did they find each other physically, but this series saw a renewal of Richonne. The couple had been separated since season 9 of the main series when Rick was thought to have died in a bridge explosion. In season 10, Michonne discovers clues that he survived and searches for him.

To see them reunite with their children was what most fans hoped for. It didn't seem right to conclude their love story without Judith (Cailey Fleming) and RJ (Antony Azor) involved.

Will there be a season 2 of The Ones Who Live?

In an interview with The Wrap, showrunner Scott M. Gimple answers the question, “...this was the end. There was no way this wasn’t the end."

But as far as seeing Rick and Michonne again, he states that he doesn't want this story to be the last of the duo. He shared that he has lots of dreams of the next steps for these characters but that "they’re just plans, just fan fiction."

Regarding the future of The Walking Dead universe, Gimple states he would like to do more classic characters in different situations but retain a TWD vibe. He also has some lofty ideas that have nothing to do with that.
