In season 11, "Warlords," a new group, Riverbend, would be introduced. Annie, played by Medina Senghore, was part of this group, and she had another connection to our survivors; she would be introduced as Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) wife.

Negan aided Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in the attack on the Reapers, who had taken over her former community of Meridian and terrorized and murdered residents there. When Maggie shot the captured Reapers in the back, he realized it was only a matter of time before she exacted her revenge on him. He decided to go off on his own.

A few months later, Negan reappeared with Annie, and after a skirmish between Riverbend and the Commonwealth, Negan introduced Annie as his wife, who was carrying his child. This was an interesting twist to Negan's story, even though it seemed odd to add this storyline in the final season.

After Deputy Governor Lance Hornsby takes over Alexandria, Hilltop, and Oceanside, many of the main surviviors are put to work doing manual labor. This includes Negan and Annie. Negan tries to organize a rebellion but is instead caught and forced in front of a firing squad for his actions. Annie, unwilling to let them kill her husband, tries to run to his side but is restrained. This scene is reminiscent of another as Negan is pushed to his knees, awaiting death. When Annie is pushed next to him, he pleads for her life. At this moment, Negan has to remember a time when the situation was reversed, and he had a lineup of people begging for their lives. Luckily, things turn out better in this situation and both Negan and Annie survive.

Once the Commonwealth is defeated, Maggie and Negan have a difficult dicussion. She does tell him that he and Annie are welcome to stay, both earning their places in the communities. But Negan takes his wife and they leave the communities to start their lives together. After the one year time jump, by this time Annie would have given birth, nothing is mentioned about the baby or the couple, ending their story within the main series.

The Walking Dead: Dead City - Negan and Annie

During the third episode of the Dead City spinoff, "People Are a Resource," Negan confides in Maggie regarding Annie and their child. The couple lived in a cabin outside of New Babylon with their child, Joshua. One day Annie went to the town to trade for goods but failed to return home. Negan, knowing something awful happened, finds her beaten, robbed, and worse. She was attacked by five men, of whom Negan would track down and kill.

At this point Negan becomes a wanted man, and he puts his family on a wagon bound for Missouri, and this is the last time he sees them. It seems an odd move for Negan, who became a wanted man, would stay in that area when he could have left with his family. It is unclear if Annie or Joshua will ever be reunited with Negan, but if it does occur, it will likely happen in the Dead City spinoff, which has been renewed for a second season.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will begin production on the second season beginning in 2024. It is difficult to say when this season will premiere.
