The Wire is a crime drama that was created by American author and former police reporter David Simon. The series premiered on HBO on June 2, 2002, and ended with its 60th episode on March 9, 2009.

The series was set and produced in Baltimore, Maryland, as Simon is very familiar with the city. The story began loosely based on the experiences of Simon's writer partner and former homicide detective Ed Burns. Each season focused on a different city institution, the illegal drug trade, the port system, the city government, and bureaucracy, education and schools, and the print news medium.

Many impressive actors have starred throughout the series, including Dominic West, Idris Elba, John Doman, Frank Faison, Lance Reddick, Chris Bauer, Aiden Gillen, and many more.
