Walking Dead alum, Chandler Riggs movie Breakup Season 2024 Fall Festival schedule
By Renee Hansen
Chandler Riggs currently stars with Samantha Isler in an independent film, Breakup Season.
In 2023, Deadline reported that Riggs had been cast in a dramedy to be filmed in La Grande, Oregon. Breakup Season is the feature debut of writer and director H. Nelson Tracey, who is known for his short films Conspiracy Party and Out of Focus. Riggs and Isler are joined by fellow castmates James Urbaniak, Jacob Wysocki, Brook Hogan, Carly Stewart, and Kailey Rhodes.
The story follows Rigg's character, Ben, an out of work 20-something who brings his girlfriend Cassie (Isler) home for the holidays. He brings her to his rural hometown in Oregon and after a fight that leads to their break up, Cassie believes she should return home. But, the remote location, snowstorm, and chaotic holiday travel prevent her from leaving which result in her "celebrating" the holidays with her ex-boyfriend and entire family.
"Funny, dramatic, and bittersweet in equal measure. Breakup Season is an authentic look at early 20s love and heartbreak. Subverting traditional holiday conventions with a more grounded and relatable approach than typical holiday fare, the film explores the topics of family and breakups with sincerity."
Breakup Season is currently in the midst of a hefty festival run through Dec. 19, 2024. Check out the dates below and support the time by attending, spreading the word about the film, or making a donation. The movie has won several awards during its long festival run.
When Chandler Riggs was 10 years old, he was cast as Carl Grimes in AMC's The Walking Dead. During season 8 of the series, Carl's story took a drastic turn from his comic book fate. During the midseason premiere episode "Honor," Carl Grimes died by his own hand after receiving a fatal walker bite. This was one of the most controversial deaths in the entire eleven seasons and many fans of Carl and Riggs never watched another episode.
Recently Riggs filmed a western, Florida Wild, with Lee Majors, Nancy Stafford, and Mira Sorvino. The story is set in 1880 when a family, the Prescott's, make a significant move from Georgia to Florida to make a new life. The movie will release in theaters in 2025.
