Deadline reports that Chandler Riggs, who portrayed Carl Grimes on The Walking Dead during seasons 1-8, has been cast in a new role. The movie, Breakup Season, is an indie Christmas dramedy that will begin filming in La Grande, Oregon, in February 2023.

Breakup Season will be the featured debut by writer and director H. Nelson Tracey, known for the short films Conspiracy Party and Out of Focus.  Tracey chose this location in Oregon after a visit there led him to see the “untapped cinematic potential” the Grande Ronde Valley offered.

Riggs has been cast as the lead alongside Samantha Isler with James Urbaniak, Jacob Wysocki, Brook Hogan, Carly Stewart, and Kailey Rhodes.

The story follows a young man (Riggs) headed to his rural hometown in Oregon for the holidays and brings his girlfriend (Isler) along to meet his family. As you would expect, nothing goes as planned.

Riggs is best known for his role as Carl on The Walking Dead. His story ended tragically, and fans mourned the loss of this character as they watched him grow up throughout this storyline in the series. He returned to the set for filming the final episode of TWD, which aired on Nov. 22, 2022. He was then placed as an extra in a scene filmed at Hilltop, seen working in the garden.

He also starred in A Million Little Things, portraying Patrick PJ Nelson. Riggs has also starred in Inherit the Viper, Only, Keep Watching, and Mercy.

Next, Riggs will become a superhero as the voice of Superman/Clark Kent in the animated Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part One. He will also star in a short film, The Undergraduate, which is a social impact thriller that tells of a college student working against the clock to submit his physics exam by midnight.
