The eleventh and final season of The Walking Dead consisted of 24 episodes of which there are many memorable scenes. In November 2022, the series aired its final episode. Throughout the long-running series, there have been numerous episodes that have truly scared viewers. One such episode, "On The Inside," takes two characters inside a literal haunted house.

The sixth episode of season 11, "On the Inside," is written by TWD veteran Kevin Deiboldt and directed by SFX master Greg Nicotero. This episode featured a horror story featuring Lauren Ridloff's Connie and Kevin Carroll's Virgil as they seek refuge in an abandoned farmhouse that turns into something from a nightmare. It is one of the scariest storylines of the series.

On the night that the episode aired, Deiboldt live-tweeted behind-the-scenes information regarding the scenes. This episode also featured Daryl (Norman Reedus) torturing Frost (Glenn Stanton), and the search party for Connie.

The Walking Dead feral house

When the episode begins, Connie and Virgil run in the night and come upon a house they take shelter in. They were being chased by someone or something that would eventually be revealed to be the feral cannibals who reside in the house.

The episode has many horror references, such as the pair running through the field, reminiscent of Night of the Living Dead. To really feel the terror Connie, who is deaf, experienced, the episode featured moments when the viewers saw things through her perspective, without sound as she did. This heightened the terror of this house.

When the ferals are finally revealed, they are contorted, walking on all fours, likely from living inside the walls, and are terrifying creatures.

Luckily, Connie was smart enough to cover herself in walker guts, shield Virgil from the ferals, and let a horde in the front door of the house to attack the ferals. They are then able to make their escape.
