Actress Paola Lázaro is well known within The Walking Dead universe for her portrayal of Juanita "Princess" Sanchez. She was introduced in season 10 of The Walking Dead and looked as if she stepped right out of the comic page. Lázaro did a fantastic job of bringing Princess to life on screen and now stars in a new Netflix original series Obliterated.
From the makers of Cobra Kai, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, comes a new series which is along the lines of The Hangover, if it was an action movie. Obliterated follows a special forces team who, after saving the world, or at least Las Vegas, celebrate Vegas style with sex, drugs, and booze. Amidst their celebration, a call from their superior informs them that the nuclear bomb was a fake and they must find the real one. This requires the crew to attempt to overcome their impairments and save the day.
The eight-episode season stars two Walking Dead actors, Lázaro as Angela Gomez, a badass Marine sniper, and C. Thomas Howell as Haggerty a wild and eccentric Army explosions technician. The series also stars Shelly Hennig, Nick Zano, Terrence Terrell, Alyson Gorske, Eugene Kim, and Amalia Yoo. Recurring actors include Ivan G'Vera, Jade Bender, Neal Kodinsky, David Costabile, Jason Mantzoukas, Lindsey Kraft, Carl Lumbly, and Costa Ronin.
The series is hilarious, silly, and crass, with lots of action, making for a wild ride of a series. Rotten Tomatoes has a very skewed rating with a 47% Average Tomatometer but a 75% audience rating. The series overtook Squid Game: The Challenge for the top spot, and in its second week, Obliterated saw 9 million views.
Obliterated premiered on Netflix on November 30, 2023.
