The Walking Dead series has often been critized for copying the opening of 28 Days Later. Both series open with a man waking in an abandoned hospital with no idea what has occurred. Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has acknowledged the similarities but remains firm in the fact that he hadn't watched Danny Boyle's film before writing the comic story.
Whatever the case, fans of The Walking Dead will surely enjoy and appreciate Boyle's take on an undead apocalypse. Boyle has maintained that he doesn't consider the films zombie movies.
The first film, 28 Days Later (2002), is directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland. The film stars Cillian Murphy as Jim, a man who wakes from a coma to a world that is much different than when he fell unconscious. A highly contagious, aggression-inducing virus has contaminated the world.
The movie also stars Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson, Megan Burns, Christopher Eccleston, Noah Huntley, Stuart McQuarrie, and more.
28 Weeks Later (2007) is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who co-wrote the story with Rowan Joffé, Enrique López Lavigne, and Jesus Olmo. It is a standalone sequel of the original film and the second segment in the film series.
This story flashes forward to a period when NATO forces are the driving force in keeping the safe zone in London. When two children step outside the safe zone, this results in the reintroduction of the rage virus into London.
This film stars Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, Catherine McCormack, Mackintosh Muggleton, Imogen Poots, and Idris Elba.
The third film in the 28 Days Later series of movies has fans of the franchise excited to see yet a continuation of the story. 28 Years Later will feature an ensemble cast and features Boyle's return as director, with Garland returning as a writer and Murphy serving as executive producer.
The new film sees the aftermath of the resurgence of the rage virus and the survivors who have discovered a way exsist among the infected. One group resides on an island, conected to the mainland by a causeway. When a father and son journey to the mainland, they discover secrets, wonders, and horrors.
This film stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes
