AMC has renewed the Maggie and Negan focused The Walking Dead: Dead City spinoff for a third season, which has recently begun filming in Massachusetts. The series is set in Manhattan and continues the stories of the long-time enemies and it seems at least one new face will be entering the fray.
Deadline reports that Lucifer and Dexter actress Aimee Garcia has been added to the cast for season 3 as a new series regular. Garcia joins the cast as Renata, who is described as a disarmingly charming leader with a natural ability to win people over with her optimism and convivial personality.
Garcia is well known for her roles in a long list of titles, but is perhaps best known for her roles in Lucifer and Dexter. She portrayed LAPD forensic scientist, Ella Lopez, in Lucifer, which aired first on Fox and then moved to Netflix beginning in its fourth season. She portrayed Jamie, younger sister to Detective Sergeant Angel Batista (David Zayas), in Showtime's hit series Dexter. Additionally, she has also appeared in many other series, including Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K, Hulu’s Woke, and ABC’s The George Lopez Show.
Dead City is the first direct spinoff of AMC's post-apocalyptic series The Walking Dead. The third season will see TWD veteran Seth Hoffman take over as showrunner, as series creator Eli Jorne stepped down from the role.
In season 2, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) find themselves trapped on opposite sides of the war for control of Manhattan. It was an exciting season that saw Maggie's son, Hershel (Logan Kim), betray his mother and side with the Dama (Lisa Emery), a ruthless gang leader. Maggie was also tested when she got the upper hand over Negan and could have exacted her revenge on the former leader of the Saviors.
By the end of season 2, Maggie and Negan, along with Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), a former member of New Babylon, decided that it was time to take matters into their own hands and formulate a plan to make a better future.

Maggie and Negan have a rocky past filled with many horrible memories, most notably Negan's brutal killing of Glenn (Steven Yeun), Maggie's husband. This event has fueled Maggie's desperate need for revenge, which has dramatically affected her relationship with her son. Can she truly put the past behind her? Or will the past come back to haunt her?
In season 2, Negan continued to battle the loss of his first wife, Lucille (Hilarie Burton Morgan), and his decision to send his new wife, Annie (Medina Senghore), and their son Joshua away. Over the years, he worked hard to redeem himself from his past sins, but this season, he easily stepped back into his previous role as a villain to protect those he cares about. Can he continue his redemption path and work alongside Maggie for a better world?
The Walking Dead: Dead City will return to AMC and AMC+ for season 3 at a date that has yet to be determined.
