In less than a week, AMC will premiere the second season of the Maggie and Negan spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City. This series is the first direct spinoff of the main show, which greatly expands the universe and continues the stories of the two main characters. A new season means new cast members, and there are several familiar faces from season 1 who will be returning.

The first season of Dead City caught up with Maggie (Lauren Cohan) several years after the conclusion of the main series storyline. She and her son left Hilltop, which had been severely damaged during the Whisperer War, to start fresh at the Bricks, located near New York City. Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), his wife, Annie (Medina Senghore), and their baby, Joshua, moved near the New Babylon Federation. When Negan, defending his wife's honor, murders several men, he becomes a wanted man and sends Annie and Joshua to Missouri to keep them safe.

The main focus of the first season was rescuing Hershel (Logan Kim), who was abducted and taken to Manhattan. Maggie enlisted Negan's help in the rescue mission, but little did he know that she would betray him to save her son.

The first season introduced several outstanding characters who will return for season 2. Gaius Charles portrays New Babylon Marshal Perlie Armstrong, and Željko Ivanek plays the Croat, a former member of Negan's Saviors who now runs a gang in Manhattan. Mahina Napoleon portrays Ginny, an orphan girl under Negan's care. Lisa Emery plays the Dama, a powerful woman who leads a group in Manhattan, and Logan Kim joined the cast as an older Hershel, replacing Kien Michael Spiller, who portrayed Maggie's son in the main series.

The second season will pick up approximately six months after the events in the first, with Negan coming alongside the Dama and the Croat in the battle for control of Manhattan. AMC's description of this season reads: "The growing war for control of New York City, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined. "

Jasmin Walker is an actor who was briefly seen in the last episode of season 1. Her character was named the Prefect, but the new promo images reveal she is Governor Charlie Byrd of New Babylon. She returns in season 2, and the first-look images show that New Babylon members will visit Maggie at the Bricks, and the visit doesn't look too friendly.
