Walking Dead fans have been eagerly awaiting new episodes of their favorite franchise. When we started this year, we very much thought that this would entail new seasons of both spinoffs The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, but a recent change to AMC's schedule has delayed the latter until 2027. The good news is that the former TWD series has already returned to US TV screens for its third season.
Dead City season 3 sees Maggie and Negan attempt to put their past behind them in the hopes of moving forward, helping Manhattan flourish as a result of that. Response to the new season has been positive thus far, with Undead Walking's own review calling it the best season of the spinoff yet, so the TWD Universe is certainly heading in the right direction.
That said, UK fans might have to wait a bit longer for its arrival.
Dead City season 3 won't air simultaneously in the UK and US
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 has officially arrived on US TV screens, premiering on both AMC and AMC+. The well-received third season has reinvigorated interest in the TWD Universe as it's the first programming from the franchise this year, and the promotion for it has understandably left fans around the world wondering when it will come to their respective countries - because, yes, even after all this time, the Walking Dead franchise remains a global phenomenon. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be arriving in the UK anytime soon.
Dead City airs on Sky and streams on NOW in the UK (along with the vast majority of the TWD shows), but neither service has provided any definitive release date for the third season. Fans were hoping that, as they got closer to its US release date, more information might become available but - as of yet - that has not happened.
Sky's approach to the Walking Dead franchise has differed ever since it purchased the broadcast rights back in 2024. Having bought the original series and the three newer spinoffs (Daryl Dixon, Dead City, and The Ones Who Live), it was able to drop the OG immediately while spacing out the spinoffs ahead of Daryl Dixon season 2's launch in the US. Having caught up on that series, the platform then unveiled new episodes of Daryl Dixon on the same week that it premiered in the US, allowing fans in the UK to be up-to-date on the franchise for the first time since the original series ended.
Unfortunately, they opted not to recreate this release format with Daryl Dixon season 3 or Dead City season 2, waiting until they had completed their respective runs in the US so that they could release the full season to UK audiences. The episodes would air weekly on Sky Max while also being available to stream in their entirety on Sky's On-Demand service and streaming partner NOW. By the looks of things, it plans on recreating that format with Dead City season 3.
Taking all of that into account, it's highly likely that Dead City season 3 will premiere on Sky and NOW in September. The season 3 finale airs in the US on September 13, so there's a pretty strong chance that Sky could immediately unveil the new episodes after the show's US run finishes. The network has used this method in the past, so with the buzz that season 3 is already generating, it may opt to release it as quickly as possible after the finale airs on AMC.
Let's hope that proves to be the case, because the third season of Dead City is easily shaping up to be one of the best seasons of any spinoffs within the TWD Universe. The exploration of Maggie and Negan's relationship now that they are no longer enemies has breathed new life into the show, as has the arrival of new characters, new settings, and a new overall mission.
