AMC has evolved its programming lineup over the years, but one consistent element has been the presence of The Walking Dead franchise. Although the original series came to an end in 2022, marking the end of its 12-year run, the TWD Universe has continued to expand - both during and after its run - through a multitude of spinoffs. The three newer ones, Dead City, The Ones Who Live, and Daryl Dixon brought beloved franchise characters to new locations, telling stories that the original show couldn't have.
For Daryl Dixon, that meant bringing its titular character - along with his best friend Carol Peletier - to Europe, as the pair travelled from the US to France before moving across to the UK and, finally, Spain. But the spinoff's final journey in the upcoming fourth season will finally do something that fans have been waiting to see for years.
Daryl Dixon season 4 will finally bring Daryl and Carol home (and someone major might be waiting for them)
The upcoming fourth season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will also be the spinoff's final season. The announcement was made back at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, which very much caught fans by surprise. However, showrunner David Zabel, stars Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, and AMC's Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe, Scott M. Gimple, all felt that the time was right to end this particular entry in the TWD Universe. And with that, there is only one really satisfying way to make that happen.
Yes, in order to conclude in a satisfying way, Daryl Dixon has to bring Daryl and Carol back home to the US. That has essentially been the pair's M.O. since the series began, as Daryl had no intention of ending up in France in the first place - but when one thing led to another, he was on the European shores for the first time ever. It was unexpected for him, but not nearly as unexpected as seeing his beloved best friend Carol, who finally tracked him down in the middle of the second season.

Having successfully rescued Laurent from those who wished to do him harm and saving Ash from the dangers of the undead in France, Daryl and Carol managed to get the pair on a plane back to the US. But ever since then, they have remained stranded in Europe. But it's not for lack of trying, as The Walking Dead's most resourceful duo walked their way to London and sailed the sea to Spain. Their mission was as it always was: To go back home.
The third season saw the pair really attempt to put that plan into motion, building a boat with the help of the Solaz del Mar community - one that could theoretically sail across the Atlantic Ocean (along with some of Daryl and Carol's new friends from the community). It almost all came together, but the season 3 finale made that plan seemingly impossible as they encountered yet another setback. But then again, setbacks are afraid of Daryl and Carol.
That has set the stage for the fourth and final season of Daryl Dixon. The pair have their goal and they know what they need to do before the credits roll on the spinoff's series finale. It's the same goal that they started out with, but it's much more definitive now. And in doing so, they can finally return to Alexandria, the Commonwealth, and any other community that they have built up during their time surviving the harsh realities of the walker-filled world.

Of course, the big question on everyone's minds is: Who will be waiting there for them when they get back? And, perhaps most importantly: Will it be Rick Grimes and Michonne? It's certainly possible.
Rick and Michonne made their long-awaited return to Alexandria in the series finale of The Ones Who Live, reuniting with daughter Judith and son RJ (who Rick met for the first time). As that spinoff miniseries took place at the same time as Daryl Dixon season 1, it's fair to assume that the pair would be behind those gates waiting for them.
Andrew Lincoln recently confirmed that he was in talks to reprise his role as Rick in the franchise's future, so it stands to reason that the most likely place for that to happen would be the series finale of Daryl Dixon. After all, Daryl and Carol don't know that Rick is alive after all these years (and the same goes for Michonne, who set out to find him) and, as both were close to him, it makes sense that they reunite as their TWD stories come to an end - for now at least.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 arrives on AMC and AMC+ in 2027.
