The beloved Walking Dead franchise is no stranger to killing characters off. From the very first season (which consisted of just six episodes), it's been clear that nobody is safe in the horrors of the TWD Universe and that has very much been maintained throughout the franchise's decade and a half of dominance on our TV screens.

From Shane's shocking death in the original series' second season to the unforgivably violent death of Glenn in the seventh season, The Walking Dead didn't hold back. The same can be said for its many, many spinoffs as Fear The Walking Dead surprised viewers with unexpected demises throughout its eight seasons while Dead City also offers up some gruesome zombie-related deaths.

Now, it looks like another one might be on the horizon as a brand new trailer for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has revealed that the only way out of one particular situation is through a major death in the show.

New trailer for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 confirms that one character must die in order for Solaz del Mar to be safe

AMC has unveiled the trailer for the next episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 and, to say that it's a thriller of a trailer would be an understatement. The clip opens with Paz catching up to Daryl as he tracks Justina and the El Alcazar convoy to Barcelona, and although he doesn't look particularly thrilled about teaming up, the pair do appear to head into the city to stop the convoy and rescue their friend.

However, in order to do that, Daryl says that they have to kill the future king of Spain, Guillermo Torres. Given that the trailer implies that the pair actually catch up to the convoy and reunite with Justina, it's quite possible that this actually happens in the upcoming sixth episode. If it doesn't happen then, it will almost certainly happen in the season finale next week.

Viewers first met Torres in the second episode of the season and he very quickly established himself as an overarching presence - and an odious one at that. In charge of the El Alcazar convoy, he walks around believing himself to be royalty and he doesn't take too kindly to anyone questioning his outdated - and questionable - customs and methods.

One of those customs is the old tradition in that a young woman from Solaz del Mar must be traded each year in an offering known as La Ofrenda in exchange for protection, supplies, and weapons. The relationship has been mostly effective in spite of the horrible price the town's families must pay but it has been lacking in principle and now it's lacking in effect. Solaz del Mar was recently attacked by the Primitivos and El Alcazar was nowhere to be found.

Meanwhile, Torres turned on the village's mayor Fede whenever three of his soldiers went missing in town (after a run-in with Daryl ended poorly for him) and he didn't take too kindly to Carol questioning La Ofrenda. After insulting the town, he decided it was time to leave. What he doesn't know is that Daryl is on his trail and he might have to pay the price for his terrible actions.

In order to rescue Justina, Guillermo may have to die. However, that's not the only reason as Justina may not be the only person they are rescuing. Now that Paz has joined Daryl in his quest to save their friend, there will undoubtedly be someone else that the pair are looking out for: Elena, the future queen of Spain and Paz's longtime love. Although she doesn't appear to be unhappy in her life in El Alcazar, it's clear that Elena would rather be with the woman that she loves - not the man she was forced to marry. And with that, Paz and Daryl could very well find themselves rescuing her too.

Torres undoubtedly won't like that when the time comes and that once again puts him directly in the crosshairs of Daryl and Paz. Could a showdown lead to his own demise? The trailer certainly confirms that the villain's death is imminent. The only question at this point is: How imminent?

We'll find out in this week's episode of Daryl Dixon if not the season finale next week.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 is now airing weekly on AMC and streaming on AMC+.
