The Walking Dead actor Michael James Shaw became an instant fan favorite for his portrayal of Michael Mercer, general of the Commonwealth army in the series' final season. Appearing larger than life on screen, Shaw looked as if he walked straight from the comic pages. Now, Shaw will appear in a new role, this time playing a character from a video game.
Peacock's post-apocalyptic action comedy Twisted Metal season 2 trailer features Shaw as the character named Axel. In game play, Axel drives a mechanical waist harness connected to machine guns mounted on two tractor tires.
One of the clips in the trailer gives a glimpse of of what this looks like in the series and fans are excited to see Shaw in this role.

Developed by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Michael Jonathan Smith, the Twisted Metal series is based on Sony Interactive Entertainment's video game franchise. The first season became Peacock's most binged comedy premiere to date.
The first season stars Anthony Mackie as John Doe, a "milkman" who has taken on the dangerous task of delivering packages in a wasteland that is now the United States. He is joined by Stephanie Beatriz as Quite, Joe Seanoa and Will Arnett as Sweet Tooth, and Thomas Haden Church as Agent Stone. The upcoming season will feature several new characters.
- Anthony Carrigan as Calypso
- Michael James Shaw as Axel
- Saylor Bell Curda as Mayhem
- Lisa Gilroy as Vermin
- Richard de Klerk as Mr. Grimm
- Patty Guggenheim as Raven
- Tiana Okoye as Dollface
Season 2 of Twisted Metal introduces the tournament, "a sinister demolition derby hosted by a mysterious man known as Calypso." John and Quiet enter the event hoping to win the unbelievable prize: Calypso promises to grant one wish, but surely there is a catch. It's a fight to the death as they try to survive new and familiar foes, including Sweet Tooth.
Peacock will premiere the first three episodes of Twisted Metal season 2 on July 31. New episodes will follow weekly, with the season finale airing on August 28. Check out the over-the-top crazy trailer soundtracked by Ludacris, below.
Recently, Shaw appeared in Peacock's crime drama Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist. The series is a fictionalized version of an armed robbery that took place in Atlanta, Georgia, on the same night that Muhammad Ali had his comeback fight in 1970. The eight-part series stars Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson, Don Cheadle, and Samuel L. Jackson and is streaming on Peacock.
