It's an exciting time to be a fan of The Walking Dead Universe. The beloved saga is about to celebrate its 15th anniversary as fans reflect on the decade and a half of destruction the AMC franchise has offered up since October 2010 when the first episode of The Walking Dead premiered. And what's even better is that it isn't all about nostalgia as the TWD Universe is still very much alive and well.
Both ongoing spinoffs The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead: Dead City are currently in production on their next seasons, meaning that both of them will be back for at least one more adventure each. We know that Daryl Dixon will end with its fourth season but Dead City hasn't quite had its fate determined as of yet.
However, the upcoming third season of the latter sounds like it's going to be the best one yet, as a multitude of new additions to the cast highlight that the story will be bigger (and potentially even better) than the previous two seasons. Speaking of new castings, perhaps the most exciting one of them all has just shared a new photo of herself with one of the show's main stars.
Aimee Garcia shares selfie with Lauren Cohan as she joins the cast of The Walking Dead: Dead City
There's a new face in the TWD Universe's post-apocalyptic version of Manhattan and she's already excited to be joining the cast of The Walking Dead: Dead City. That's right, Lucifer star Aimee Garcia has taken to social media to share a first look selfie with TWD veteran and Dead City star Lauren Cohan.
The caption is simply Cohan's Instagram handle with "This one" and a blue heart emoji. This marks the first time that the two stars have been seen together, offering up fans a tease of things to come in the upcoming third season of the series. Check it out below:
Naturally, fans were loving the first look photo of the pair together, with many remarking how epic it is to see "Maggie Rhee" sharing a moment with "Ella Lopez" given that both characters are extremely popular (and very badass!).
Garcia is one of three major cast additions to Dead City this upcoming season and she is set to play the character of Renata, who is described as an unexpectedly charming leader renowned for her optimism. Although there aren't any other character details, it goes without saying that optimism is a rarity in the zombie apocalypse of the TWD Universe, so she will undoubtedly be a welcome presence.
From the sounds of things, the third season of Dead City will see its characters attempt to take something of a more uplifting approach to their mission, stepping up to save New York from the evils that currently hold it prisoner (The Croat, The Dama, and their army), and that could make Renata the ally that Maggie Rhee (Cohan), Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles) needs. The only question is: Is she really an ally, or is she not to be trusted? That's something that the show's trio may have to ask themselves.

Garcia is no stranger to larger-than-life roles in peroperties based on legendary comic books as she is best-known for her role as Ella Lopez in all six seasons of Lucifer. Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, the series saw Lucifer Morningstar escape Hell to make his way to Earth so that he can live the high life. While there, he becomes intrigued by a detective who is seemingly immune to his charms and he ultimately falls in love with her. He also finds himself joining her on her cases in a consulting role, where he meets forensic scientist Ella (Garcia's character).
We can't wait to see what kind of roles she will play in Dead City as she joins another iconic universe in The Walking Dead Universe. And, as we mentioned above, she's one of three major cast additions this season, joining the established franchise alongside Jimmi Simpson and Raúl Castillo.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 is currently in production and is expected to air in 2026.
