This new Walking Dead spinoff probably isn’t coming in 2026 (here’s why)

Who would've thought that The Walking Dead would still be around, 15 years after it first brought us into a world overrun by the undead? While the original series finished its run in 2022, the universe it created continues to thrive with new stories, spinoffs, and untold adventures.

There are currently six Walking Dead spinoffs: Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Tales of the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Dead City, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. However, only two of these six are still ongoing. They are Daryl Dixon and Dead City.

Daryl Dixon is set to end its run on AMC next year with its fourth and final season, while Dead City is expected to premiere its third season in 2026 as well. But what about brand-new Walking Dead spinoffs? Well, that's when things get a little tricky. While there have been discussions about the franchise's future, AMC has only officially announced one new spinoff. That spinoff is More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe. But here's the issue. The zombie series was announced back in 2023, and there haven't been any new updates since.

More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe probably isn't coming in 2026

Unfortunately, this is the conclusion we've come to given the lack of updates since the spinoff was first announced. There haven't been any casting announcements, production details, or a release date shared with fans, leaving the fate of More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe shrouded in uncertainty.

We're in the last month of 2025, and with no official news or signs of production ramping up, it’s becoming increasingly clear that fans won’t be seeing this new spinoff in 2026. The silence from AMC only fuels speculation and disappointment. There's even concern that More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe might not be happening at all.

It's not unheard of for a show to be in development limbo for a long time before finally moving forward, but it's not a good sign when years pass without any updates. Sure, AMC could announce something new about More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe at the top of next year. But we doubt it will be an official premiere date. If there were to be an announcement, it would probably be a casting update or a brief production note.

But again, that's if this spinoff is even still actively in development. With years of silence and no clear indication of progress, we're left wondering whether More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe will ever make it to screens or if it has quietly become another project lost in development limbo. For now, the only certainty is that the next chapter of this beloved zombie saga remains tantalizingly out of reach.

More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe was announced by AMC back in April 2023. The Chief Creative Officer of The Walking Dead universe, Scott M. Gimple, is behind the show. Like Tales of the Walking Dead, it is an anthology series made up of six self-contained episodes, each exploring new stories, characters, and corners of the zombie apocalypse. However, this is all that is known about the spinoff at the moment.
