Although you think that a franchise like AMC's The Walking Dead would be winding down now that it has surpassed its 15 years of existence, but all the signs point to more TWD in the future. The current spinoffs continue to do well both domestically and internationally, and there are more opportunities for the cable network producing it to capitalize on that - potentially telling more stories for many more years to come. Hey, even the powers that be reckon there could be 15 more years worth of stories to tell!

It really does go to show you the global popularity of this franchise and its enduring appeal. Even audiences in the UK were recently able to dive into the new spinoffs after a delay as Sky purchased the rights to the TWD Universe franchise making all 11 seasons of the original show available to watch on-demand (and airing it too) while also offering UK audiences their first chance to see the new spinoffs Daryl Dixon, The Ones Who Live, and Dead City.

However, there is still one relatively recent TWD spinoff that has been all-but-forgotten by worldwide audiences. Thankfully for those in the UK, it can finally be watched on multiple formats.

Tales of the Walking Dead finally available to watch and purchase in the UK

It's official: Tales of the Walking Dead is finally available to watch and own in the UK. The six-episode TWD spinoff has arrived on Sky and NOW TV as of October 24 (and is now airing on Sky Max as well), joining the original Walking Dead series, The Ones Who Live, Daryl Dixon, and Dead City as the fifth TWD show to premiere on the services. If you would prefer to own it yourself, then you will be thrilled to know that it is now available to purchase on DVD and Blu-Ray (as of November 10). You can also purchase it digitally via VOD services such as Apple or Prime Video.

This is a pretty major step for fans of the beloved TWD franchise as many of them haven't been able to watch this particular spinoff. Although it did debut in the UK on the now-defunct AMC channel, its short-lived run ended when the channel was shut down, meaning that - until last month - it was the only part of the TWD Universe saga that UK fans couldn't watch. If they missed it the first time around, they missed it altogether.

Released in 2022, Tales was the first of the new wave of TWD spinoffs announced. However, instead of premiering alongside the new spinoffs, it was actually run out ahead of the final season of The Walking Dead. As a result of this, it didn't feel like part of the new era at all, and as the franchise has seemingly moved on from it since, it seems that fans are pretty accurate in feeling that way.

The show featured six standalone installments, each one focused on a particular individual at a particular time of the zombie apocalypse that eradicated this world. One of them even gave us an insight into TWD villain Alpha, with Samantha Morton reprising her role. And as it had been well-received, fans were understandably hoping for a second season. Unfortunately, as of 2025, it has not happened yet, with AMC's Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe Scott Gimple confirming that there are no immediate plans for any more episodes.

There is a spinoff in the works titled More Tales From The Walking Dead Universe - which is basically Tales but in a short-form format - but three years after it was first announced, there have still been no significant updates on it, leading fans to believe that it might have been quietly cancelled.

Nevertheless, you can bet that TWD fans in the UK are happy that they can finally enjoy the spinoff series they've been waiting for. Tales is now the fifth chapter of the franchise to join the Sky collection of TWD shows, with only Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond not available to watch on that platform (as both were exclusive to Prime Video throughout their initial runs).
