Do you hear the sound of walkers getting closer and closer? Well, it's nearly time to run (toward the TV), because a new episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 is upon us. The iconic spin-off show has quickly forged a fresh new narrative, getting rid of characters and storylines from previous seasons to allow Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) to have a fresh start alongside some new faces such as Renata (Aimee Garcia) and Luis (Raúl Castillo).

Things are also a little more lighthearted this time around, and characters like Maggie and Hershel (Kien Michael Spiller) have been allowed to grow closer together. So far, this formula has proven to be a success, as reviews for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 have been stellar. But will the show be able to keep the momentum going? Well, that's exactly what we're about to find out with the release of episode 3.

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 episode 3 release date and time by time zone

Maggie and Renata wanted to become a beacon of hope, but will that bring them more trouble than good? Well, this week will finally give us some much-needed answers. However, if you don't want to wait until Sunday to find out what's next for Maggie and Negan, you're in luck because The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 episode 3 will air sooner in some areas. "Emigrants" will be released at 12:00 a.m. PT on AMC+ on Sunday, August 9, and here's when to expect it in different time zones:

  • Hawaii: 9:00 p.m. HST on Saturday, August 8
  • Alaska: 11:00 p.m. AKDT on Saturday, August 8
  • West Coast of the US: 12:00 a.m. PT on Sunday, August 9

What to expect in the third episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3

The second episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 was a big inflection point for the show because it featured the death of the Dama (Lisa Emery)—a major antagonistic force who has been puppeteering events of the previous seasons. Both she and the Croat (Željko Ivanek) are gone for good, and with Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles) going back home, we're about to witness a completely fresh start that will be all about building a new... sanctuary of sorts.

The previous episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City culminated with Maggie and Renata letting the world know their community has the necessary resources to power an entire city by lighting the Statue of Liberty. This caught the attention of an unnamed group of survivors who will "investigate" what's going on.

The episode's title, "Emigrants", reveals Maggie and Renata are about to expand their post-apocalyptic community for the very first time. Perhaps the biggest question in store is whether all of these new survivors will be friendly faces, which is unlikely in a world as ruthless as the one The Walking Dead takes place in. Now that the Dama is gone, it could be the perfect opportunity for the show to introduce us to a new big bad who will push the events of the story forward.

We're also bound to see more character development. Hershel is likely to keep training to become a doctor, Dillard could finally kill the walkers in his bar (especially now that he has finally accepted he can't understand them), and, of course, Negan is bound to become an active part of Maggie and Renata's community. Fortunately, it won't be long before we figure out what other surprises lie in store.

The third episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 will be released on Aug. 9, 2026.
