Shudder, AMC's home of everything horror, introduced a new slasher comedy in December 2024, which featured one of The Walking Dead's fan-favorite actors. Bloody Axe Wound is an RLJE production that will be heading to Hulu this month.
Walking Dead's Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars in the horror film directed by Matthew John Lawrence, who is well known for his comedy horror Uncle Peckerhead, released in 2020. Bloody Axe Wound also stars Sari Arambulo, Molly Brown, and Billy Burke, with TWD actress Angel Theory also making an appearance. Morgan co-produces with his wife, Hilarie Burton Morgan, 80s icon Mary Stuart Masterson, Wendy Mendoza, and Lawrence.
The coming-of-age story follows Abbie Bladecut (Arambulo) who intends on taking over the family video business for her father, Roger (Burke), who is only getting older. Roger has a side gig in which he makes and sells "snuff films" of the murders of teenagers.
The movie was filmed near the Morgans' home in the Hudson Valley area of upstate New York, allowing them to be very involved in the production. The movie also features a killer soundtrack that features songs from Pom Pom Squad, Five Hundred Bucks, He Is Legend, and Your Future Ghost.
Arambulo is known for her role in A.P. Bio as is Eddie Leavy, who also appears in Bloody Axe Wound. Brown is known for Dexter: Original Sin, and Burke is well known for numerous roles including Charlie Swan in the Twilight series of films. Sage Spielman, Matt Hopkins, Mickey Breitenstein, David Littleton, Keaton Morris-Stan, and Rena Hurkhart round out the cast.
Morgan will reprise his role as Negan Smith for the third season of The Walking Dead spinoff, Dead City which has begun filming in Massachusetts. Set in Manhattan, Dead City continues the stories of Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) and Negan, characters originally introduced in the main series. The long-time enemies worked together in season 1 and found themselves trapped on opposites sides for the battle for the island in season 2.
By the conclusion of season 2 the duo, along with former New Babylon Marshal Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), vowed to formulate a plan to make a better future than what others have planned.
The official synopsis for The Walking Dead: Dead City reads: Maggie and Negan finally put aside their differences to build the first thriving community in Manhattan since the apocalypse, but when chaos in the city begins to arise, they are forced to question: have they learned from their old wounds or will their dark past spell doom for the entire city?
