Filming for the project recently began in Portland, Oregon and a casting call was made for background punk actors who were instructed to “Be sure to include photos with your best punk look and outfit.”
The Hollywood Reporter recently announced Hurst, Giancarlo Esposito, Harold Perrineau, and Taryn Manning have been added to the previously announced cast, Zhang, Orlando Norman, Spence Moore II, Heidi Grace Engerman. West Mullholland, Sam Rechner, and Curran Walters have also been cast in the movie.
Out Comes the Wolves follows Norman, Moore, Engerman and Zhang, a group of friends with a strong bond, during the 1990s East Bay punk scene. They long to escape the violence and desperation of their city to fulfill their dreams.
Esposito has been cast as a ruthless mid-level kingpin with Perrineau as Moore's father who desires his son to become a professional baseball player. Norman's mother is portrayed by Manning, a woman who makes it well known that she never wanted a child. And Hurst plays a homeless addict with prophetic insight.
Out Comes the Wolves official Synopsis:
"Set against the East Bay punk music scene in the mid 1990s, Wolves is a story of grit and dreams in a world of violence and desperation. Norman, Moore, Engerman and Zhang play a tight-knit group of high school friends vying to escape the blighted city in which they live. Getting away isn’t so easy, however, when the streets are full of metaphorical predators and prophets at every turn and the story, following the teens, will ask who manages to get away and who will be devoured when the wolves come out to hunt."
