One of the most remarkable things about The Walking Dead fandom is its lasting dedication. Even though the original series ended years ago, fans haven’t stopped supporting the actors who helped bring the zombie apocalypse to life. Viewers continue to follow the cast from project to project, eager to see what they do next.
Whether it’s Andrew Lincoln leading a new show or Norman Reedus appearing in a new film, the fanbase consistently shows up. And that same enthusiasm extends beyond the main stars to many of the supporting actors as well. Now, another fan-favorite from the series is stepping back into the spotlight.
He has a new fantasy film on the way, and the project has just reached a major milestone. Production has officially wrapped, and the upcoming movie now has a confirmed release window!
Walking Dead actor Steven Yeun stars in Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender

Walking Dead fans know Steven Yeun best as Glenn Rhee, the brave and compassionate survivor who quickly became one of the most beloved characters in the early seasons of The Walking Dead. Now, the actor is stepping into an entirely different world, lending his voice to a new adventure set in the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Titled Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, it's an animated fantasy film that was first announced back in 2021. Lauren Montgomery directed the movie with the franchise’s original creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, signed on as producers. It serves as a continuation of the hit Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The original show centered around Aang, the last surviving Air Nomad and the long-lost Avatar, who was discovered frozen in ice after being missing for a century.
Once awakened, Aang learns that the Fire Nation has nearly conquered the world during his absence. With the help of siblings Katara and Sokka, he begins a journey across the four nations to master the elements and fulfill his destiny of restoring balance to the world. In Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, the story takes place years after the defeat of Fire Lord Ozai. We revisit Aang and his friends as adults.
Aang learns of an ancient power that could help save his nearly extinct culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he sets out on a globe-spanning quest to find it before dangerous forces can claim it and jeopardize the hard-won peace they fought so hard to secure.
Yeun voices the iconic role of Zuko, the conflicted firebender prince whose journey from enemy to ally remains one of the most compelling arcs in the Avatar universe. The rest of the voice cast includes Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, Román Zaragoza, Dave Bautista, Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Freida Pinto, and Ke Huy Quan.
On March 6, Konietzko shared on his Instagram page that Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender had officially wrapped production. However, he didn't provide any release date or anything of the sort. It was Montgomery. On March 8, she made a big post on her Instagram stating that production had finished and that fans can expect the new film to arrive in October 2026.
For those who have been keeping up with Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, this release window shouldn't come as a surprise. The film had gone through multiple schedule changes during production. It was originally planned as a theatrical release by Paramount Pictures. It was set for an October 2025 release in theaters but was delayed several times. Eventually, the movie moved to streaming instead of theaters.
We learned in December 2025 that Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender would be streaming on Paramount+ once it drops. However, we didn't have a release date. Now, we know it's coming sometime in October of this year. So, that's good news! Although not confirmed, the film is rumored to be released on Paramount+ on Oct. 9, 2026. This might actually happen because this date was the last official theatrical release date before Paramount Pictures decided to skip a theatrical debut altogether. We'll just have to wait for confirmation, though.
