Chandler Riggs is stepping back into the spotlight in a way fans likely didn’t expect. Best known for his long-running role as Carl Grimes on The Walking Dead, Riggs is now leading a brand-new horror-comedy that looks equal parts outrageous, unpredictable, and completely chaotic. The film's newly released trailer teases a high-energy mix of revenge, cybercrime, and dark humor that quickly spirals into full-blown madness!
For many fans, Riggs will always be tied to the post-apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead, where he grew up on screen as one of the series’ most recognizable characters. His return in this new project marks a noticeable shift in tone. Instead of gritty survival horror, the movie moves into something far more comedic, stylized, and self-aware. And if the trailer is anything to go by, it’s a role that allows him to fully break away from his past image in the most chaotic way possible!
Chandler Riggs stars in Hacked: A Double Entendre of Rage Fueled Karma
The movie is titled Hacked: A Double Entendre of Rage Fueled Karma or Hacked for short. Shane Brady serves as both the writer and director of the film, with his real-life wife Emily Zercher as producer. Hacked is described as a horror-comedy flick inspired by a real-life event that happened to Brady and Zercher.
Basically, the real story is that Brady and Zercher were victims of a wire fraud scam while trying to buy a home during the pandemic. As they worked through the frustrating process of reporting the crime and attempting to recover their money, the experience of being stuck in endless hold times and feeling powerless against an unseen thief eventually became the darkly comedic foundation for the film’s revenge-fueled premise.
However, instead of leaning into a straightforward retelling of that experience, the movie amplifies it into something far more extreme. The film's plot centers around how a family’s dream home purchase quickly turns into a nightmare when they fall victim to a mysterious hacker known only as “The Chameleon.” Their life savings are stolen in an instant, leaving them devastated and desperate for justice.
But rather than accepting defeat, the family decides to fight back in increasingly unhinged ways. What then follows is a chaotic revenge plot that escalates far beyond a typical crime story. As you can see from the bonkers trailer above, it makes it clear that this isn’t just about tracking down a hacker. It’s about turning frustration, anger, and helplessness into action, no matter how absurd or reckless things become!
Chandler Riggs stars in the leading role as The Chameleon. He's also joined in the cast by fellow Walking Dead alum, Katelyn Nacon, who played Enid in the beloved zombie series. If you recall, their characters were in a relationship at one point. In addition, the movie's cast includes Brady, Augie Duke, Owen Atlas, Collin Thompson, Richard Riehle, Phil Esposito, and others.
Hacked is slated for a limited theatrical release this May, before heading to digital and VOD platforms on June 2. Don't forget to save these dates!
