Walking Dead and Longlegs actress Alicia Witt cast in new YA movie, Shiver

Witt recently starred in the Nic Cage-led Longlegs, in performance so dark she refuses to watch.

Actress and singer/songwriter Alicia Witt is well known for her roles in Dune (1984), Urban Legend, and the psychological thriller Longlegs. In season 6 of The Walking Dead she portrayed a member of Negan's Saviors named Paula. Now, Deadline reports that Witt has been cast in her next role in Shiver, a fantasy thriller.

Shiver is Claire McCarthy's adaption of Maggie Steifvater's New York Times bestselling YA fantasy novel. The book is one of four in Steifvater's The Wolves of Mercy Falls series that follows the relationship between wolves and humans. Production for the project, which is written by McCarthy, Steifvater, and Jett Tattersall, is underway in Vancouver.

Maddie Ziegler (My Old Ass) and Levi Miller (Before Dawn) were the first cast members to be announced. Witt was later announced with Oscar nominee Greg Kinnear, Sofia Wylie (The Map That Leads to You), Iman Vellani (The Marvels), Lyon Daniels (The Spiderwick Chronicles), Alexander Ludwig (Earth Abides), and Ross Butler (Shazam! Fury of the Gods).

The movie tells the story of Grace (Ziegler) who as a child, was save by a yellow-eyed wolf as a pack of wolves attacked her. This created an impenetrable bond between them. When she meets a yellow-eyed boy named Sam (Miller) she feels an unexplainable connection. Grace and Sam's love story is told amdist mystical events, mysterious disappearances, and intrigues and allows Grace to learn of his connection with the wolf pack.

McCarthy directs the film and is known for her work in the 2018 film Ophelia, starring Daisy Ridley in the title role. She also directed The Colour Room, a biographical film about ceramic artist Clarice Cliff (1920s/30s) which stars Phoebe Dynevor (in her feature film debut), Matthew Goode, David Morrissey, Darci Shaw, Kerry Fox and Luke Norris.

Witt was discovered by David Lynch, who cast her in his 1984 movie Dune when she was eight years old. She has several other notable credits to her name, including Two Weeks Notice, Vanilla Sky, Last Holiday, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Friday Night Lights (series), The Mentalist, Justified, Orange is the New Black, Fuzzy Head, and her unforgettable performance in Longlegs.

Witt also performed in the ninth season of The Masked Singer. She was dressed as the dandelion, and Ken Jeong correctly guessed her identity.
