The Walking Dead franchise refuses to fade into the background. Between spinoffs and constant rumors, it always feels like something new is right around the corner. And of course, we're keeping our nose to the ground, tracking every update, every announcement, and every cryptic tease to figure out what’s actually coming next for the ever-expanding zombie universe.
Just last year, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe Scott M. Gimple revealed his plans for the future of the franchise, stating that he could see it going "until 2040 and beyond." However, it's the most recent rumor that has had fans in a frenzy.
Back in November 2025, industry insider Daniel Richtman reported that AMC is developing a Walking Dead crossover spinoff. It would basically be a new series that, if true, would bring together characters from the franchise’s different spinoffs into one shared story. But again, this is just a rumor. Neither AMC nor Gimple has come out with an official confirmation. However, there may be reason to believe this rumor is true after a recent meetup among some of The Walking Dead cast.
The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira reunite

It's really true, Walking Dead fans. Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira are known for playing two of the most beloved characters in the franchise, Rick Grimes and Michonne. On Jan. 4, Gurira decided to share a bunch of photos on her Instagram of exciting things that happened to her last year as a way to close it out. Guess who was included in one of the photos? Lincoln!
It's the second photo in the lineup. It shows Gurira and Lincoln, with Lincoln kissing a smiling Gurira on the cheek. Based on the picture's background, they appear to have been somewhere in the United Kingdom. Check it out below!
Now, why would these two have reunited? Last time we checked, both were working on separate projects last year. Was this just a friendly catch-up between two close colleagues, or could it be a subtle hint that AMC’s rumored crossover spinoff is actually in the works? Of course, we'd like to believe the latter.
Lincoln had also met with Gimple in the United Kingdom last year. While that meeting was reportedly to see Lincoln’s play, it’s possible it wasn’t their only encounter. Perhaps they met with Gurira on a separate occasion to talk about future projects or even to discuss the rumored Walking Dead crossover. That's what we're hoping.
We haven't seen Lincoln and Gurira appear on-screen together since the spinoff series, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. This show finally reunited their characters after years apart. But while it was a great spinoff, we still haven't seen Rick and Michonne reunite with the franchise's other surviving characters like Daryl, Carol, Negan, Maggie, and Morgan. The rumored crossover spinoff is expected to do that.
That’s why we need this recent meetup between Lincoln and Gurira to have actually been more than a casual reunion. With The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon coming to an end this year with its fourth season, and The Walking Dead: Dead City being the only spinoff left, we need something big. We need a unifying event that finally brings our favorite characters back together again. But first, we need that official confirmation. Come on, AMC. Give the fans what they want!
