Since The Walking Dead concluded its story in 2022, fans have enjoyed seeing their favorite TWD actors in new roles. In June 2025, Okea Eme-Akwari, who portrayed Elijah in seasons 10 and 11, will star in a new action-horror film, Resurrection Road.
The Saban Films feature was written and directed by Ashley Hill and produced by Talia Bella, Pantea Ghaderi, and Randy Wayne. The story is set during the American Civil War and follows an elite group of Black soldiers led by Barabbas, an ex-slave. The suicide mission takes the squad deep into the Arkansas wilderness, where they are tasked with infiltrating and destroying a Confederate fort, which is heavily guarded. The objective of this mission is to alter the course of the war.
This isn't the first squad to attempt the mission, many have gone before but no one has made it out alive. The squad will discover that an unforeseen evil preys on anyone who enters. The film is described as a gritty action film combined with historical horror.
Teams have been sent before, but no one has ever made it out alive... They're about to find out why. Deep in these woods is an unforeseen evil that preys on anyone who ventures too close. Turns out some things ARE worse than death.
Malcolm Goodwin portrays Barabbas and is joined by fellow castmates Michael Madsen, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Randy Wayne, Ronnie Gene Blevins, Okea Eme-Akwari, Randall J. Bacon, Furly Mac, and Triana Browne. The film also features the debut roles of Davonte Burse and Bryan Taronn Jones.
Watch the official trailer for Resurrection Road that will see a limited theatrical release on June 6 when it will also be available via digital/on-demand.
Actor Furly Mac shared the vintage poster for the film on Instagram.
