AMC has done a bang up job with The Walking Dead: Dead City. The series features Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a fan favorite, and the beloved Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in a continuation of their stories, this time, set in post-apocalyptic Manhattan. The second season features eight episodes, and two of them mark a significant milestone in Cohan's career.
Dead City season 2 finds Negan and Maggie trapped on opposite sides of the battle for Manhattan where vital methane production takes place. Negan is blackmailed into siding with the gangs of Manhattan, and Maggie is conscripted into opposing army of New Babylon.
The fourth episode, "Feisty Friendly," will see Maggie uncover surprising information as Negan attempts to outmaneuver a slippery foe. This episode will add Cohan to the list of actors turned directors within The Walking Dead universe. She steps behind the camera to direct this episode and the sixth, "Bridge Partners Are Hard to Come by These Days," which airs on AMC and AMC+ on June 8.
Cohan joins Michael Cudlitz, Lennie James, Colman Domingo, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Aisha Tyler as actors who have also directed episodes in at least one series within TWDU.
Walking Dead universe actors who have directed
Cudlitz, known for his role as Abraham Ford, directed episodes of the main series and the limited spinoff, The Walking Dead: World Beyond. James, who portrayed crossover character Morgan Jones, directed two episodes of Fear the Walking Dead.
Fear the Walking Dead actors Alycia Debnam-Carey and Colman Domingo, who portrayed Alicia Clark and Victor Strand, both directed episodes of that series.
Walking Dead super fan Aisha Tyler has directed and acted in TWDU. Her universe directorial debut was featured in Fear TWD. Her TWDU acting debut took place in the James directed season 7 episode, "Till Death." She has also directed episodes of World Beyond and an episode of the final season of the main series.
Cohan stars, directs, and serves as executive producer for Dead City with Morgan, TWD Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple, comic story creator Robert Kirkman, and TWD veterans David Alpert, Gale Anne Hurd, Brian Bockrath, and showrunner Eli Jorné.
