Walking Dead comic relationships that never happened in the series.

The comic story and TV series tell many similar stories, but often the series took liberties to tell a different one.

The Walking Dead began airing on AMC in 2010 and is based on Robert Kirkman's comics. The series' creators often took liberties, featuring new stories and introducing new characters, diverting from the source material. One result from these creative changes included the creation of new relationships, meaning many comic couples were never seen on screen.

The series creators oftentimes did a fantastic job pairing up people in romantic relationships, but comic fans were sad to miss out on the on-screen romance of some of their favorite pairings. Check out these missed romances featured in the comics.

Walking Dead comic couples not featured in the series

Rick and Andrea

One of the most popular comic pairings is Rick Grimes and Andrea. They experience a long-lasting, loving relationship, and Andrea becomes Carl's mother figure. She survives significantly longer in the comic and is kind of a bada$$, more so than her series counterpart. Unfortunately, comic Andrea dies of a walker bite at the end of the Whisperer War. Many viewers would have loved to see Laurie Holden portray Andrea on-screen as she was in the comic.

The series was obviously influenced by this relationship in the pairing of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) with Michonne (Danai Gurira).

Andrea and Dale

Speaking of Andrea, she also had a relationship with Dale in the comic. Yes, Dale, who was several years her senior. She was 25 to his 68 years. They shared a romantic bond and adopted two orphaned children.

In the series Andrea and Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) functioned on a level of friendship or as a father/daughter relationship.

Carol and Tyreese

Carol and Tyreese were an item in the comics. Keep in mind, comic Carol was a much different from series Carol, who transformed from abused housewife to all-out warrior. The relationship between Carol and Tyreese ends in tragedy when she discovers he has cheated on her with Michonne. After their breakup, Carol's mental state begins to decline, and she allows a walker to bite her, ending her torment. Before Tyreese is killed by the governor, he and Michonne continue their relationship after Carol's death.

Pairing Carol (Melissa McBride) and Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman) together after the fall of the prison is the closest the pair ever get to in the series.

Michonne and Morgan

The comics featured Michonne and Morgan in a relationship prior to the All Out War and Negan storyline. Although it was often rocky, it was true love, as Michonne explained to Rick. It was heartbreaking to learn that Morgan was bitten, and Michonne had to be the one to put him down.

In the series, Morgan (Lennie James) accused Michonne of taking his last protein bar, a comical yet far from romantic interaction.

Aaron and Jesus

Fans thought this comic love story would be played out on screen, but it never came to be. In the comic, the relationship between Aaron and Jesus began at the beginning of the Whisperer War. This duo would then be the ones who kill Beta.

It is hard to say whether or not Aaron (Ross Marquand) and Jesus (Tom Payne) were together during the series' six-year time jump. Since Jesus was killed by the Whisperers, nothing has ever been featured in the storyline.

Carl and Lydia

The comic featured a relationship between Carl and Lydia. She turned to Carl for comfort after running away from the Whisperers. Carl becomes quickly attached to her but she later tells him she isn't in love with him.

In the series, Carl (Chandler Riggs) died before Lydia (Cassady McClincy) is introduced but she does form a relationship with Henry (Matt Lintz).

Rosita and Eugene

Another interesting pairing from the comics was Rosita and Eugene. After learning that Abraham never really loved her she turns to Eugene for comfort. They are married, but Rosita eventually gets pregnant with Siddiq's child. She is later killed by Alpha, leader of the Whisperers, her head placed on a pike with several others.

It is well known in the series that Eugene (Josh McDermitt) loved Rosita (Christian Serratos), but while they were very close friends, Rosita never wanted more.

Michonne and Ezekiel

The comics featured Michonne and Ezekiel in a relationship for a few years. After he is killed by Alpha and added to the pike lineup, Michonne mourns her loss and regrets how she treated him after their breakup.

The only thing that was even remotely close to feelings between Michonne and Ezekiel (Khary Payton) in the show was that brief kiss they shared.

Carl and Sophia

After the 20+ time jump in the comic, Carl and Sophia reconnect. Both survive the entire comic series to become married and have a daughter they named Andrea. Their happy little family set up a home outside the newly reformed Commonwealth.

Sadly, Sophia (Madison Lintz) died in season 2 and Carl in season 8 so their relationship could never have become a reality.
