Fans of Maggie and Negan are anxiously awaiting the continued story in seson 2 ofThe Walking Dead: Dead City. AMC has announced the premiere for season 2 as May 4 at 9 p.m. ET. The eight-part season is received praise in media reviews and currently has an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. There are several different storylines the show will follow this season including a rocky one that has potential to worsen as things progress.
The season 1 finale of Dead City did a fantastic job in setting up the story to progress in the second season. One significant focus will be the battle for Manhattan and the methane production that utilizes the one resource the apocalypse has in plenty, the undead. Another story that will be interesting to follow is the relationship between Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and her teenaged son Hershel (Logan Kim) who experienced a traumatic abduction in the first season.
The mother and son relationship was already rocky, and after being rescued, Hershel was completely honest with his mother about her obsession with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the man who murdered his father. Instead of raising her son and being a mother to him, Maggie chose the path of revenge, making Hershel feel unseen.
Hershel Rhee - season 2 of Dead City
After Hershel was rescued and safely back at the Bricks, the new community where he lived with his mother, viewers learned that he spent time in conversation with the Dama (Lisa Emery), a powerful leader in Manhattan. Even though she cruelly chopped off his pinky toe, he seemed to be fixated on the woman, which was evident in the drawing of her. This could lead to more conflict with his mother this season.

Actor Logan Kim began playing an aged-up Hershel in season 1 of Dead City. During a 2024 interview with Screen Rant, Kim teased a "darker" side to Hershel in the new season. That information and the new images of Hershel for episode 3 lead one to believe he will experience something that takes his character down a dark path.

By the conclusion of the first season Maggie promised Hershel that she would "finish things" with Negan to allow her to focus on her son. Although the description for the upcoming season states that Maggie and Negan are "trapped" on opposite sides of the fight, they are seen together in clips during several promotional videos. It will be interesting to see where the story takes Maggie and Hershel this season and beyond.
