Fans of Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Negan are excited to see the former villain and leader of the Saviors back, clad in leather and welding a new version of Lucille in the season 2 trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City. This time, his barbed wire-wrapped bat gives quite a shock!
In the final scenes of season 1 of Dead City, Negan was blackmailed into joining the likes of The Dama (Lisa Emery) and The Croat (Željko Ivanek) in taking over the island of Manhattan. But the new trailer (below) showcases Negan truly enjoying his return to villainy.
Many fans will never truly believe Negan has redeemed himself after he brutally killed many with his trusty Lucille, including Maggie's husband Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham (Michael Cudltiz). Viewers and Maggie remember well Negan's delight in bludgeoning the men to death right before their friends and family's eyes.
This is why the final scene of the newly released trailer of Maggie holding Lucille is quite shocking. What has happened that has driven her to pick up the new weapon, identical to the one that killed her husband?
It is likely Maggie discovers that Negan was forced into joining the gangs of NYC to keep her son Hershel (Logan Kim) safe. In season 1, The Dama threatens the young boy's well-being when she reveals to Negan that she took the boy's pinky toe while he was being held captive by the Croat. She reminds Negan that if he doesn't obey her, she can always return for more of the boy.
This knowledge could propel Maggie to action to save Negan.

Walking Dead fans watched Negan try to redeem himself in many different ways, while some believe he was successful, others will always doubt him because of his past. Regardless, he does have a soft spot for Hershel, as Negan knows well what he took from the boy when he killed his father.
It may seem that Negan has returned to his old ways, but Maggie's insistence on helping him this season shows that something else is going on.
