Filming for Daryl Dixon season 4 officially wrapped on Nov. 20, and fans quickly flooded social media with reactions and heartfelt goodbyes to the beloved series. As the show’s final installment, this marks the last we’ll see of this particular Walking Dead spinoff. So it makes sense why there's been an outpouring of emotion from fans.
These emotions only intensified after one of the show’s lead actors shared their own personal farewell online. Norman Reedus, who plays the iconic Daryl Dixon, posted a short but heartfelt message on X on Nov. 20, expressing his gratitude to fans and everyone who has supported him, his character, and the series over the years.
Last filming day today for daryl dixon. It’s been such a joy for me to play this guy with all of u for this long. I feel really blessed. Truly. Thank you all really from my heart ❤️ pic.twitter.com/aSyw51vhoP

As expected, people immediately swarmed the comment section, leaving messages of love and appreciation for both Reedus and his character. Some fans shared their favorite Daryl moments, reflected on the show’s impact, and/or expressed their sadness at the thought of saying goodbye to one of the franchise’s most cherished figures for now. But then there were other fans who interpreted Reedus's post as him saying goodbye to playing Daryl altogether, and started leaving messages filled with worry and pleas for confirmation about the character’s future.
One fan left a comment saying, "I hope it's just a "see you soon." And we can still see the reunion that the actors, characters, and fans deserve." Another fan left a comment saying, "For this show, hopefully not for your character. Thanks for making an amazing arc of a story for Daryl from season 1 of TWD to now. Hoping for Spinoffs forever with you and Melissa. Happy last shooting day!"
After reading over Reedus's post several times, I personally don't know how some fans have interpreted it as his permanent goodbye to Daryl. Not once does Reedus explicitly say that he’s done with the character for good. To me, the post seemed like a simple, heartfelt thank-you to everyone who's been part of his journey since he took on the role of Daryl. Emotions are running high with Daryl Dixon wrapping production on its final season, so maybe some fans are reading too much into it. That's my honest opinion.
Even after playing Daryl for as long as he has, I can't see Reedus walking away from the character just yet. I'm pretty sure he's heard fans' wishes for a big reunion of all the main surviving characters in The Walking Dead universe, like Rick, Michonne, Negan, Maggie, Morgan, and Carol.
Additionally, Reedus has expressed many times in the past how much he loves playing Daryl and just the zombie universe as a whole. So, I think he'd at least be open to returning to the character for a potential reunion special/spinoff, and possibly even for future projects in the franchise. However, we'll just have to wait and see what AMC has in store next.
