It's safe to say that The Walking Dead franchise has made an incredible impression on pop-culture around the world. It's arguably the biggest zombie franchise of all time and an all-around titan of genre TV, which its reach extending far beyond the US TV screens that it was born on. Even now, nearly a half decade after the conclusion of the original series, the TWD Universe is still going strong.
The Walking Dead: Dead City is currently airing its third season in the US (with hopes for a fourth season, too) while the fourth season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will close out that show's critically-acclaimed run next year. That's the Stateside of things, but fans in one particular region - a region in which the TWD Universe remains extremely popular - have been asking one question. And that is a question to which we finally have an answer.
The Walking Dead franchise's UK return date revealed
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 premieres on Sky One in the UK on Friday, September 18. Although Sky has yet to confirm the exact air time, it is highly likely that it will hold the show's traditional 9:00 p.m. BST timeslot, while also being available to stream on both Sky On-Demand and Sky's own streaming partner NOW.
Ever since the series returned in the US on AMC, fans in the United Kingdom have been asking "When does Dead City season 3 come out in the UK?". And honestly, it's understandable because, yes, while it has been great that Sky has made a home for the vast majority of the TWD Universe, the release schedules have been a little inconsistent.
The longtime UK staple acquired the original Walking Dead series, as well as the first seasons of Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, back in 2024 and aired each of those seasons ahead of the season 2 premiere of Daryl Dixon - which it was able to release new episodes of on the same weeks as their US releases. However, it has since dropped that approach and instead holds the seasons until they complete their domestic runs.
Speaking of which, we had predicted that Sky might begin airing Dead City season 3 shortly after its run on AMC finished in the US and it turns out that we were correct. The Dead City season 3 finale airs on AMC and AMC+ in the US on September 13, which means that the show's arrival in the UK will come just five days later. And that's not too bad at all.
The third season of the spinoff takes the story in a completely new direction under the guidance of new showrunner Seth Hoffman. While some might find that particularly jarring, it seems like it was ultimately a decision made for the better, as the third season has received overwhelmingly positive reviews (including from us at Undead Walking), with many calling it the best season of the TWD Universe era thus far. High praise indeed.
I'll not spoil it for the UK fans who haven't seen it yet, but Maggie and Negan's long and complex dynamic gets even more complex as the story shifts in a completely different direction, leaving the darker days of season 2 (and even darker days of the original Walking Dead behind), setting a course for a brand new chapter in their storied dynamic. Manhattan won't know what it hit when these two tackle it together with a shared goal, and that makes for quite the exhilarating viewing experience, too.
All in all, it has been almost a full year since UK fans have had new TWD content to enjoy (which came in the form of Daryl Dixon season 3), so it goes without saying that this is a welcome update for fans of the franchise who had been waiting for an update. It also guarantees that audiences in the United Kingdom get to enjoy another installment from the TWD Universe for another year.
