A familiar face from AMC’s The Walking Dead universe is heading into a high-stakes thriller. Ethan Embry has officially joined the cast of Prime Video’s Cross as a series regular for the upcoming third season! This marks a significant new role in the expanding crime drama led by Aldis Hodge.
Embry's casting adds another recognizable actor to the growing ensemble of Cross, a series that continues to build momentum as one of Prime Video’s standout psychological crime thrillers. With its focus on serial killers, moral complexity, and the mental toll of detective work, the show continues to carve out its own space in the crowded world of streaming crime dramas.
Walking Dead actor Ethan Embry takes on major role in Cross season 3

Walking Dead fans will recognize Ethan Embry from his brief but memorable appearance in the zombie series, where he played Carter, a resident of the Alexandria Safe-Zone during the show’s early Alexandria arc. Carter only appeared in the first episode of season 6, and quickly met his demise after a walker bit him on the face. Rick was then forced to make the difficult decision to put Carter down by stabbing him in the back of the head with a knife to prevent him from reanimating.
Outside of the zombie series, Embry is also best known for his roles in ’90s films like That Thing You Do! and Can’t Hardly Wait. On the television side, he’s also appeared in series such as Sneaky Pete and Grace and Frankie. Most recently, he starred in the slasher flick Scream 7.
Now, Embry is stepping into an entirely different kind of role in Cross season 3. In the third season of the Prime Video crime thriller, he will portray Frederick, a charismatic sobriety coach known for his tough-love approach to helping people recover from addiction.
Unlike his brief appearance in The Walking Dead, Embry is set to be a series regular. In other words, he's expected to appear throughout the season and play a significant role in the unfolding narrative. His character is described as being emotionally and mentally tough and as someone who is willing to help people a lot. People respect Frederick because he makes others feel understood and valued.
While it's unknown how exactly he will be introduced into the story, we're looking forward to seeing how Frederick fits into the darker, psychologically driven world of Cross and what kind of impact he’ll have on the characters around him as the new season unfolds!
Cross is based on the bestselling Alex Cross novels created by James Patterson, one of the most widely read authors in the thriller genre. The series was developed for television by showrunner Ben Watkins, who also serves as an executive producer and helps shape the overall direction of the story.
The show takes place in Washington, D.C, and follows Alex Cross, a homicide detective and forensic psychologist with a rare ability to understand how criminals think. Viewers watch as he investigates some of the most dangerous and complex criminals. With Embry joining the Cross season 3 cast, we recommend watching the first two seasons on Prime Video in the meantime. Of course, that's if you haven't already!
