The Walking Dead may have shuffled off its final season a few years back, but that doesn't mean fans aren't still obsessively keeping tabs on the cast. Those unforgettable heroes, villains, and everything in between left such a mark that we just can’t help but follow them into whatever wild new projects they take on next.

Whether it’s a gritty drama, an action-packed thrill ride, or something completely out of left field, we’re there to support and check out every single one. In fact, news just broke about one Walking Dead alum who has been cast in an upcoming Prime Video series based on a legendary video game. Once you find out who it is, you're immediately going to be like, “Yes! This is exactly the role they were born to play.”

If you're a true Walking Dead fan, you should know who Ryan Hurst is. He played the iconic role of Beta, the imposing and mysterious second-in-command of the Whisperers, aka one of the show’s most terrifying villainous groups. He joined the Walking Dead cast in its ninth season and quickly became a standout presence, terrifying survivors and viewers alike with his towering stature and masked menace.

Now, we're about to see Hurst take on a much different role in Prime Video's God of War. He's reportedly set to star as the main character, Kratos. For those who are unfamiliar with God of War, it’s a beloved PlayStation video game franchise rooted in ancient mythology. The games follow Kratos, a Spartan warrior turned god, as he battles gods, monsters, and his own tragic past.

Prime Video has decided to bring this epic world to life in live-action form, with Hurst leading the cast. Hurst is in no way new to the God of War universe. He previously voiced Thor in the video game God of War Ragnarök, even earning a BAFTA nomination for his performance. Now, he’s stepping into the shoes of Kratos, a role that demands both physical intensity and emotional depth. With his history of portraying larger-than-life, complex characters, Hurst is uniquely positioned to bring this iconic video game hero to life for the small screen.

The live-action series has already been given a two-season order and is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Ronald D. Moore (For All Mankind, Outlander) serves as showrunner and executive producer, while Frederick E.O. Toye (Fallout, Shōgun) is signed on to helm the first two episodes.

Other executive producers include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Pre-production is currently happening in Vancouver, and casting is ongoing.

So, what will the first season of God of War be about? The highly anticipated live-action series will closely follow the story of Kratos and his young son, Atreus, as they set out on a perilous journey to scatter the ashes of their late wife and mother, Faye. Along the way, Kratos seeks to teach Atreus the ways of a god, while Atreus challenges his father to embrace what it truly means to be human.

Besides Hurst, no other actor has been cast yet. It'll be interesting to see who joins him as Atreus, the other key characters, and the many gods, monsters, and mythical beings that will populate this epic world. With casting underway, we should expect more announcements soon!
