Actor Lennie James' most recent project, Mr. Loverman, received much love at the 2025 BAFTA awards ceremony. James is best known as Morgan Jones, who first appeared in the pilot episode of AMC's The Walking Dead in 2010.
This year's BAFTA awards were hosted by Alan Cumming, star of The Traitors and held at the London’s Royal Festival Hall on May 11. BBC's Mr. Loverman and the ITV series Mr. Bates vs. The Post Office were the big winners of the night.
James received Best Leading Actor for his role as Barrington Jedidiah Walker in the adaptation of Bernardine Evaristo's Booker Prize-winning novel. His Mr. Loverman co-star Ariyon Bakare won Best Supporting Actor. James was nominated with an exceptional list of actors, including David Tennant (Rivals), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), Martin Freeman (The Responder), Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer), and Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs The Post Office).
The eight-part series was adapted by Nathaniel Price and directed by Hong Khaou, who is well known for his debut feature, Lilting (2014). The story tells of the Antiguan-born Londoner, who goes by the name Barry, whose wife believes he is cheating on her. She isn't wrong, but the extramarital affair isn't what she expects.
