Prime Video’s crime drama Scarpetta is building serious momentum ahead of its second season, and the latest casting news is turning even more heads. A well-known actor from The Walking Dead universe is officially stepping into the world of forensic crime, joining an already stacked ensemble led by Nicole Kidman.

The series, based on Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling Kay Scarpetta novels, has quickly become one of Prime Video’s more ambitious thriller projects. With season 2 already in production in Nashville, the show is expanding its cast in a major way with the addition of Fear the Walking Dead's Kim Dickens!

This exciting casting move brings a familiar face from the post-apocalyptic drama world into a very different kind of storytelling environment. Kim Dickens, who is best known for her role as Madison Clark in Fear the Walking Dead, spent years portraying a hardened survivor navigating the collapse of civilization. That role made her a standout in The Walking Dead universe, and not only earned her a strong fan following but also solidified her status as a genre television staple.

Now, she’s shifting gears into a far more grounded but equally intense world. In Scarpetta, the focus is not on survival against walkers or collapsing societies, but on the precision of forensic science and the psychological weight of solving brutal crimes.

Created by Liz Sarnoff, the Prime Video show centers on Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a brilliant and methodical medical examiner who uses forensic science to unravel complex murder cases. Kidman takes on the lead role of Kay.

As mentioned earlier, she is set to reprise this role for Scarpetta season 2. However, it's currently unknown who Dickens will be portraying in the second installment. All that is known about her new cast addition is that she will not be appearing in the show as a one-time cameo or something of that sort. Instead, she joins the Scarpetta season 2 cast as a recurring cast member. In fact, several other talented actors have just joined the season 2 recurring lineup as well.

They are David Arquette, Jodi Balfour, William Zabka, Stella Baker, Troy Garity, Jerod Haynes, Michael “Killer Mike” Render, and Holland Taylor. When it comes to the returning main cast for Scarpetta season 2, it also includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Ariana DeBose, Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale, and Hunter Parrish. That said, the season 2 cast definitely has us even more intrigued about where Scarpetta is headed next!

Besides Scarpetta season 2, Walking Dead fans can look forward to seeing Dickens in the upcoming Netflix romantic drama film, Saturn Return. It's set to be released on the platform sometime in 2026. In addition, she stars in the upcoming Netflix psychological thriller movie The Innocent Girl. However, it's unknown when exactly this film will come out.
