Actor Jon Bernthal is currently making headlines with the reprisal of his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher in the Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again. The actor will reprise another role in the upcoming movie, The Accountant 2, a sequel to the original film featuring Ben Affleck.
Bernthal joined AMC's The Walking Dead in what would become his breakout role. He portrayed Shane Walsh, co-worker and best friend of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). The men worked as Sheriff Deputies for King County, and when Rick was shot in the line of duty, Shane was beside himself, fearing for his friend's life.
When the outbreak occurred, Rick was still in a coma and Shane tried to take him from the hospital. When this proved unsuccessful, Shane would take it upon himself to care for Rick's wife, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) and son, Carl (Chandler Riggs). He told Rick's family he was dead and this allowed him the opportunity to make his moves on Lori.
When Rick returned, alive and well, things quickly went south between the two men which resulted in Shane's death in season 2's penultimate episode "Better Angels."

Shane greatly impacted the lives of the Grimes family and his death made Rick face the facts that everyone is infected, proven when Shane reanimated without being bitten. Bernthal did a fantastic job in his portrayal of Shane, a character who most fans love to hate, proving his skills as an actor.
Jon Bernthal - Daredevil: Born Again
Daredevil: Born Again is a nine-part series based on the comics featuring Daredevil, created by Dario Scardapane, Matt Corman, and Chris Ord. The series features the return of Charlie Cox as Daredevil, a role he first played in the Marvel Netflix series Daredevil, which aired on the streamer from 2015 to 2018. The new series is lighter than the Netflix show.
In addition to Cox and Bernthal, several other cast members who also appeared in the Netflix series returned for the new series. Vincent D'Onofrio returns as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Wilson Bethel as Poindexter.
Newcomers to the Daredevil world include Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, Jeremy Earl and and Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Marianna-Fisk, taking over the role originally played by Sandrine Holt.
Daredevil: Born Again premiered on Disney+ on March 4 and will air the season finale on April 15.
Bernthal will continue to portray The Punisher in a new feature for Disney+ in 2026. In an interview with Collider, Bernthal stated, “I've said it a million times: Frank is in my bones, is in my heart. I care about him." Another exciting development for this feature is that the actor will make his writing debut. This should give Bernthal the creative freedom to write Frank's story as he believes it should be.
The second installment of The Accountant is directed by Gavin O'Connor and written by Bill Dubuque, just as in the original. Affleck and Bernthal will be joined by J. K. Simmons and Cynthia Addai-Robinson, all in reprisals of their roles from the first film. Daniella Pineda and Allison Robertson (who replaces Alison Wright) are joining the cast. The new movie is produced by Amazon, MGM Studios, and Artists Equity, which acquired the rights from Warner Bros.
